Halley's Comet

After reading the possible explanation for "Ghost" and based on some of 
my own ponderings, here is my interpretation of Halley's Comet.  The 
song was written back in Phish's heyday when they still did cocaine.  
The song was put into retirement (along with their habit?) only to 
resurface a number of years later.  Now, I'm not calling phish druggies 
either, but I'm sure they indulged at least a little bit... Anywho, I 
think that the band has given up the hard drugs and simply chooses to 
puff tuff once in a while, but the songs remain.  Here it goes........
"How could you know that I lived in a desperate world, How could you 
dream that we were all made out of stone"  These opening lines state 
that the person saying this (Nancy, back in the day) were desperate and 
needed a fix, and that not everyone can just say no.  Some people said 
yes...Then a few more lines, and then the chorus  "I'm going down, to 
the central part of town"  Anyone that lives in a big city (I personally 
don't, but by doing tour enough times, you're exposed to all parts of 
the big city) knows that the place to get drugs are downtown, not out in 
the suburbs where Jimmy lives.
"For everything I do to get the story and everything I do to pull me in" 
..These lines are saying that one does just about anything to get some 
and get involved with the 'story' aka cocaine..."And everything I do to 
get the title, but when they use it on me I reject it" ..This says a 
similar thing, except the title is a drug user, but when someone calls 
them a druggie, they say 'no I'm not'...
"I'm sinking down, it's a glorius feeling" .. when one comes down from 
the high, it's a glorius feeling
"To make a big difference..." . people under the influence of cocaine 
sometimes get delusions of grandeur, so they make a big difference.. 
"...my body is reeling" this should be obvious.
Also, one last point on this song, is that what is a comet to begin 
with, but a big white line made of dust going across the sky.  Get it?

Halley's Comet.   The boys are singing about downtown Burlington. 
They're just going down to hang out on Church Street.  For those that
have been there, it is "the central part of town."  For those that have
never been to Burlington, Church St. is the only part of town. 
Burlington is beautiful in all it's areas but Church is the main drag. 
The place where everything is.
