> said that 10 was the maximum rate. I think if I had said "No, I'm not here to see Phish. I'm here in town and I have a room in the hotel next door" then he wouldn't have scammed me. If anyone else had the same experience, please corroborate (well, no; we don't need a bunch of yelling on gadiel's page). But really: does anyone know what's at the bottom of this? Was anything done? Thank you for any help.

Well, I hit all 4 shows and was on cloud nine the whole time. I was reminded that Phish and Phish tour make me the most happy in life. However: I go for one reason: the music. If everyone did this there would be no negativity. There would be no loud drunk guy behind me talkin through the most beautiful and soft parts of the show. There would be no fights at set-break. There would be no one pushing there way up front past people who actually have tickets for the seats there in. There would be no greedy people selling me grilled cheese sandwiches that they cooked 2 hours ago and are now soggy and cold. There wouldn't be any slobbering idiots running on stage (why do people cheer for these morons?). There wouldn't be Phish crew members getting pelted in the head by people throwing glowsticks.
I go soley for the music and this past weekend the music was great and beautiful. I love those four zany guys so much. The 2 new songs are great, I still can't get "Birds of a Feather" out of my head. The funk is as deep and thick as ever and the jams are soaring to new heights. I was happy to see the new lighting programs that Chris pulled out.
So as we all scraped together every last penny for mail order for summere tour, lets try to remember what we're planning for: live music by the best band on earth. PEACE (and I mean that literally)

Hey WSP-4-ME. The scene may seem like shit to you, but why let that ruin your appreciation of the band??? The music continues to be great, and as always, ALOT BETTER THAN THE LAST TIME THEY TOOK THE STAGE!!!! As for Widespread Panic, they used to be a decent band, but they just don't have the energy PHISH has. The majority of their shows are weak, and their songs and jamming is less than spectacular. I'd go see them to dance, and that is it! PHISH is blowing them away, and if the last 4 nights don't prove it to you, then go see Widespread for the scene, and miss out on the MIND-BLOWING PERFORMANCES PHISH IS GIVING!!! it's your loss, not ours. Phish is obviously at a evolutionary crossroads, LAST YEAR PROVES IT, THESE 4 NIGHTS PROVE IT!! I Wouldn't want to miss that for the world, EVEN IF "THE SCENE" Sucks, because the scene isn't what its about, the MUSIC is.
WIDESPREAD IS BURNT!!!! -
i missed the first night at nassau so i can not comment on that- as for the other three i thought they were excellent- all three nights had their own special something that made them each stand out for various resons-we should all be very grateful that the band members love the shows as much as we do-it is easy to see how much they enjoy their time onstage-so lets keep up th good energy and not ruin it for ourselves!

i just read this whole page of comments, and it made me unbelievably happy and ecstatic to see how much everyone enjoyed the shows, but it made me unbelievably upset and saddened to see how people are quarelling as a result of phish. come on, guys - phish isn't something that we're supposed to fight about and establish some hierarchy of hippiedom in regard to. personally, phish is more than music, it's a social deed done good. friday night was my first show, and it was without a doubt the single greatest night of my life. i've never before seen so many people brought together for one evening, all happy and smiling and loving one another. it was so moving. it humbled me while inspiring me. i've been an aspiring musician for several years now, and i've always thought that it was too idealistic and utopian - even for an idealistic and utopian teenager - to think that i could spend my life making music. but now i know it's what i have to do. nothing in the world - not money or cars or mansions - could be as gratifying as making people smile and be genuinely happy. it's so hard to believe that four guys and four instruments can perform such a social service, but jon and trey and mike and page have done it, and they've done it well. i can't imagine what it must feel like for them to see ten thousand people surrounding them with happiness and joy. i hope i can feel the same some day. but with that, i just want phish's followers to go back to what's important. i want everyone who listens to and enjoys phish's music to remember that it's not about who's been to more shows or who has more bootlegs or who knows who pete carini is, but it's about community and love and compassion and happiness and joy and all those wonderful things that phish has brought to us. peace and love to you all...

COMPLETE BEDLAM. ALL 4 SHOWS WERE SO MIND-BOGGLING IT'S SERIOUSLY RIDICULOUS. THEY HAVE TO BE CONTROLLED BY SOME TYPE OF COSMIC FORCE BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY TO EXPLAIN HOW HUMANS CAN DO SHIT LIKE THAT. I'VE SEEN THEM 32 TIMES NOW, AND THAT COULD BE THE BEST 4 NIGHT STAND THEY'VE EVER DONE. UNBELIEVABLE.

Even on their worst possible night ever, a bad Phish show is still better than Hootie on a good night. Boogie on Reggae Woman...

Hey Mister "WSP-4-Me"--as if anyone doesn't know what lame band you're talking about--I'm glad you said you won't go to any more Phish shows. It's obvious that you were only in it yourself for the "scene". That must be why you are getting out of it so quickly--it didn't fit your "vision" of what a "scene" should be. Glad you're gone. Now there's one more seat waiting for a true fan of the MUSIC. Oh yeah, about the music, all four shows bordered on the classic. Spectacular--keep it up boys, you're slowly but surely weeding out the posers.
Craig Beezley - cbee@mindspring.com
"You're making a big mistake," was the comment that resonated through my head this morning while sipping my coffee and reviewing last night's monstrous set lists. The pitfalls of a 9-6, Monday - Friday career. Oh well, seeing every show is longer an option. Like phine wine, Phish should be savored slowly, so the "phish burden" has subsided a bit these past couple of years. Out of the three shows I was privileged enough to be a part of, the 4/4 II set had the most profound effect on yours truly. Set brake was filled with anticipation for what we all knew would be a tight, funk filled extravaganza, especially in light of the previous night's looser, more open-ended free form jamming. As soon as the opening notes of this set began I mouthed to my friend in delight . . . BIRDS OF THE FEATHER!! I can't say enough about this song, so perfectly indicative of where the boys are heading. David Byrne would certainly be proud of this Talking Heads like ballad. A hybrid of The great curve (off RITL), Cross-eyed & Painless, and Llama (anyone remember the post piper jam in Albany 12/12 II?), from the moment this landslide of a groove begun I was beside myself with laughter and joy. Puppet like I moved uncontrollably to this new epic that will no doubt secure a place in this summers rotation. 2001, FUNK FUNK FUNK and more Funk. Is it possible for this song to get any better? Whenever Page's clavenet surfaces from the depths of grooveville I have to smile, and smile I did!! Explode is more like it. Trey's single note jamming strikes a deep primal cord within me. Oh boy!! Can it be the first BROTHER since the Clifford ball!! At this point the laughing was unstoppable!! The jam during this personal fav, reached epic proportions. Dark, evil, and sublime, brother brought me to a pleasantly scary, but familiar place. Scary because for one nano second, I forgot what song/state/venue I was in. An interesting twist for Brother, a song that in the past has encouraged a consistent and straightforward style of jamming. Not this Brother though. Jammy da Jam Jam Jam. The "radio friendly version" added some closure to this rare treat. The long and slow "radio unfriendly" GHOST brought me to my knees. The funk resurfaced for an earth-shattering rendition of this new Phunk fest of a song. I truly can not get enough of Ghost, and it just keeps evolving! A Phish song evolve . . . that never happens ; ). Then, as if I was transported back to 12/29 II, they segued into the familiar Blues brother anthem, CAN'T TURN YOU LOOSE. 1 hour 4 min's of some of the best Phish this Phreak has witnessed since Hampton 11/22. Non stop funk for the head. LIZARDS brought me back to my first connection with this extraterrestrial band. This tune is played so infrequently that I savor every moment. A quick trip to Gamehenge is always a pleasure, and this version was no exception. Beautiful and heart felt through out. Wait is that a sudle, consistent top hat I hear? YES our good friend DAVID BOWIE made a guest appearance for the conclusion of this mind numbing 2nd set. I don't know about you all, but this rendition brought me to a brusin' level of dance (writers note: self-inflicted, chairs can be such a hindrance). The tension release built up rocked my being to the very core. This Bowie is on par with the 12/3 Philly Bowie. Sheer cathartic release, you gotta love it people. HOOD was the perfect ending to a phenomenal show. Just the amount of positive vibes to keep you smiling into next week, or the next night if you were indeed lucky enough to go. For those of you who made it this far . . . I commend you! And shall offer a reward to the first person who emails me a one hundred word description of their most cherished Phish moment. Let's just say the reward captures the audio experience of the above review show, and it sounds phenomenal!! (well worth the essay). A damn good night, one I will remember for years to come!

Before I get to the show (4/4) I just want to say I'm glad the boys are playing hours away each night this summer, because the scene in Providence, well there were just too many people there without tickets (at least 500) and many others not even caring about going in. Tweezer opener was good and could've gone places but they settled into Taste, which had a great climatic jam. After it was Bouncin' which was tight and not too much of a bummer for me because it was my first live one, then Funky Bitch got the place going. Ginseng was a nice treat, but the Limb by Limb had another climatic jam like Taste, odd to see these two in the same set and after either it or Lawn Boy Trey says about Page, "Isn't he just great?" then launches into Character 0 to seemingly answer to Page's playing.
Long set break, then they open with Birds of a Feather which was long and jammed out, could be this years Ghost. After it got spacey and 2001 started up, only went through once, nice but the jamming was great. Did any one else see the glowstick hit Trey's amp and knock out his sound for a sec? Well this segued into Brother, you've heard the story. But after Trey says the next song is very radio unfriendly, I was thinking Bowie, but he then says its unfriendly because its long and slow. The whole crowd seemed to sigh, thinking it was Caspian, and then Mike goes, "I bet they'd really like to know what it is." After a pause they jump into Ghost, which was long and funked out before going into Lizards, which I was psyched to hear because its getting pretty rare. After it got spacey again and sounded like Maze was coming but they go into Bowie. The jam was good but it seemed like Trey wanted to jam the end jam more before the machine gun part, as he kept bending then hitting the last couple notes of the pull-offs. But it was good and solid. Encore was a great Hood, and when those 2 people ran over the top rafters dancing it just summed up the moment. Overall a great show. Was Fish in the dress the whole show? I only noticed it when he came up for the encore. Couldn't get a ride for Sunday and had to sell my ticket but Saturday left me anticipating summer tour. Keep up the positive vibes and stay home if you don't have a ticket. See everyone this summer!

I was so impressed with the first set of Friday night, I have not heard Reba in 22 shows, and needless to say, its one of my favorites. The entire set grooved to a steady stream of positive energy... And the jams were at a perfect length, not too long, not too short. Set II was nice, but I didn't catch the groove to Roses are Free, I could live with never hearing that song again, the jam seemed to be going nowhere and at times It completely lost my attention. I attended this show completely sober (well, I had one glass of Merlot before the show) and yet I still felt like the band was putting me in a slow trance. The loving Cup completely saved the day, I love Page, and of cource much props to the gentleman who sucessfully jumped on and off stage. Peace to you all, enjoy the wonders of spring.

Since when did Phish become some perfect being that never makes any mistakes? All this analyzing every fucking note really cracks me up! Just listen to the damn music and enjoy! they are not gods but i think they do a damn good job of enertaining all of us. If they make a mistake just say "damn i wish i could even come close to doing what they are doing." phish is a great band and i dont think we really have any room to critisize them.
Lets all try to make this summer great by mellowing out and enjoying what phish gives us!

april 4th and 5th, i think...providence, r.i.
the weather was crisp, in between winter and spring, sandals were enough with maybe a light sweater or a tab or two, will-call lines a little shorter than the others, but a major pain in the ass, holding down those three cups of coffee because i don't want to wait in the line to the john, nor want to go in the out door...speaking of the "scene"...i've been addicted to phish since roughly '91 and you know what?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
THE SCENE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
surrounded by great friends filled with the same driving energy of music that the phab phour phloated throughout the civic center, i was in bliss...great shows...can't wait for the summer
can't wait for these boomers to wear off!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, I was only able to make it to the 4/4 Prov. show. THis band never ceases to amaze me with such musical blissfullness (if that's a word). THis was my 14th show and was better than the setlist looks.
First Set: I called the Tweezer to my friends seeing as they ended with TwePrise the night before. Real funky, lots of Mike and Fish and funk.Taste was nice, not as good as NSG or Worcester. BATR-standard but decent. Funky Bitch-Page rocks the shit out of the chord changes. Ginseng then Limb By Limb. The 6/4 time is real fat, especially towards the end of the song when trey solos over fishmans tight beats. Lawn Boy was a nice lightened lift. Page came down and got a flower from a girl. Mike's chill solo added to the humor of the song. Zero was a jamfest, pretty standard but well-played set. Although these aren't the eye-grabbers of songs imo, they played the shit out of a somewhat shitty set. THis would all change in set 2.
Bird's of a feather, 2nd time played, AWESOME!!!! They played it with as much vigor as they would a YEM, which they've played umpteen hundreds of times. THis song will be awesome to see this summer, 2001, vewry strung out and funky. Kudos to Kuroda on the lights for this one, he killed the stage lights, almost beckoning the crowd for a glowstick war. Glowsticks rock!! THey would be even more effective if everyone didn't try to hit the boys on stage with them. Once the stage was covered, Brother broke out. What a nice surprise, last time played (ZZYZX) was 11/30/96 then CliffBall. The band enjoyed it so much, they gave us a "radio friendly version" following. Very funny, then trey said something like, "this next song is very radio unfriendly" GHOST, good could have been a little more funky, they kinda chilled out the jam to a somewhat relaxed jam>> Lizards, awesome!! always a pleaser >> BOWIE, wow!!! Get this tape, the second set is fabulous. E: HOOD!!! Very long and jammed out, the beginning was the best beginning (part before they say HRRY, HRRY where do you go when the lights go out) i have ever heard. The band played around with different times and licks. The jam itself progressed very slowly once again proving to us that these VT. boys take their time and it certainly has paid off. Tapes would be much appreciated if anyone's got'em. Otherwise, see y'all this summer!!!!

Just got back from the two Providence shows. The second set first night and first set second set are what dreams are made of.(If the two were combined into one show people would've died left and right from exhaustion) Simply stunning. If I had to pick just one single highlight I would have to pick two--BROTHER from the first night and DOWN WITH DISEASE the second night. Oh yeah, to all of you who complain, GET OUT OF THE GAME!!!(go follow Widespread or something) This band works harder to please all of us than any other band in the world--so start appreciating their effort even if they did play Bouncin' or Trey forgot a couple lyrics. NOTHING and NOBODY can please everyone. To all those who actually enjoy every minute of every show they go to--CHEERS! I love you-- you all will definetely enjoy life moreso in the future than all these whiners nitpicking about song selection or crowd makeup.

Sunday night's show left me with no doubts as to why I love Phish as much as I do. I have been reading this page and the other spring tour thought page and after all the bad vibes on them, I questioned how good of a time i would have. But, after the Oh Kee Pa-->YEM opener, I had no questions. By the way, did Yamar kick anyone elses ass? I gotta jet, but more to follow soon. If you got tapes, my email is at the bottom, let me know!

4/4 at Providence was fucking insane. It was the best show of the 4 I have been to which are all Mass shows. It was worth the 2 hour drive. Well worth it. I loved eating at the Mcdonalds and watching the whole scene develop. I was walking around the side and saw them open the doors. No one was there and I was like "What the fuck?" I was the fourth one in and took a piss without one person in there except for my friends. Along with
a killer 3 hour show and floor seats this was the best fucking night of my life.

I was fortuante enough to catch 4/2 4/4 and 4/5 and I have to say that the band's energy incresed dramatically from show to show. After Saturday's exhibition of such rarieties as Lizards and brother, I couldn't fathom how it could get any better than this, then there was Sunday!!! The OKe-pah>YEM WOW!!! This 30 minute YEM was perhaps the most energtic version I have ever heard which culminated in a beautiful vocal jam. Another highlight was Bathtub>Cities. The master Page flourished on the keyboards during Bathtub as the band had the crowd rocking. This cities rivaled the one from Ventura 7/30/97 which the first US one since 1994.Theme was very well placed after a lengthy Yem which kicked my ass. The boys fulfilled my gamehenge cravings with a nice Mcgrupp.Sparkle and Caspian were there standard selves. Maze really blew me away, Page's organs were unreal and from where I was standing I can see Mike and Trey carrying on a conversation during Page's incrediable jam.All that is left to say is that this summer is going to be fuckin insane, see you all there!!

Guys and gals,
If you have a problem with the scene don't go! Yes the scene has changed alot(crowded, people who do not know the "Etiquette", crazy fans on stage, etc.) since my first show back in 92, but I am there to be musically entertained and mesmorized(for the same reason I keep going back time and time again) - Isn't that reason enough?. You should be there to enjoy the music - it really is all good (Funk, Blue-grass, old school, new school, what is the difference?, what band is better?)! I did all four shows - how could anyone in their right fuckin mind say the shows weren't unreal and vintage(seriously). Could you see how much fun they are having up there - it is all spontaneous and energy-fed, to me that is amazing! This weekend was almost my 100 show (really I am not trying to say my opinion is better than someone who has only taken in a few shows or sound like one of those people who are hipper or wiser than everyone else), my point is that if you did't feel Trey's energy during Tweezer Reprise then your not feelin' the vibe -bro. They played Reprise, because they wanted to thank us - that is probably the most intense closer they have ever done - I was shaking after(don't you guys see that)! The four guys on stage are there because they want to be - we(the fans) excite them. Yes, Trey missed acouple chords over the weekend - Give the guy a fuckin break! Who can step to Trey Anastasio - the guy is a fuckin Psycho up there, or anyother of the phellas for that matter. The time you have at a show is what you make of it - one lesson that I have learned over the past year or two (which was very hard for me to get over also) is that diversity between people is good. For all the critics out there, I have seen my fair share of shows - been to all the New Year's run since 93, all the halloween shows, etc. - traveled from one end of the country to the other and all inbetween - just dig what they are doing today, not how they used to play a certain song, their setlist selection, or the vibe of the show from a particluar evening. Appreciate growth and maturity - most off all, there love for the fans and their instruments! They are the best band on earth - what else do you want from them!

Can you say "Lawn Boy?" I just got back from both Providence shows and I'm reading the Nassau setlists. It seemed like the whole run was Lawn Boy, Gamehendge, and new material. In fact, the only Lawn Boy song not played was My Sweet One. I loved the Gamehendge -- Lizards rocked, McGrupp too. I wish I was in Nassau for PYITE (a personal fave). Sunday night in Providence was one the best performances ever. The first set, especially; it should be an album. I'm serious. Every song was jammed beyond belief. Oh Kee Pah> YEM w/ vocal jam was utterly pleasant.
Phish has definitely rekindled their powerful yet happy, electrifyingly spontaneous nature -- Trey's solo, Fish's solo, Trey and Fish having a showdown. I can't wait for summer. See you all at Lemonwheel!!
P.S. Did anybody else see the two people running along the rafters right before the finale of the Harry Hood encore Saturday??

Way to be in the catwalks guys,,those cops were so confusied. *made me happy*...ok, I enjoyed the 4/4 show, but 4/5, just seemed a all in all better show..not like i am a critic,,but all i know is that i was smiling and grooven and was a little bit happier on 4/5. ///well who knows/// Finally..i just wish that the boys were a little happier. It seemed liked they were not as excited as the fans were. *well i just makes me sad that is all*,,i just need a few more "this is wonderful" smiles from all four off them. ((hugs)) to them,,hoping that they are alright. Ok,,,bye,,summer is right around the corner:)

Phish is such a great band for all this negativity to ruin them. The scene these days SUCKS!!!! The people who are ruining it, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!! You can't clean up after yourself, you smell like SHIT, and you would rather steal things and call them ground scores instead of buying them like Real Phans do. I'm so pissed that I don't even want to go to Phish shows anymore. The crowd is turning me away.
Besides, there is so much other great music out there, where the scenes have not yet been corrupted. So, I guess you will see me following a band that has loving, appreicative fans that still respect what there is for them. Hint, Hint, this band is still ALLOWED TO PLAY RED ROCKS, and they are blowing the roof off of every venue they play. If you still don't know who I'm talking about, then forget it because we don't want your stank asses there anyway to ruin yet another scene. By the way this band loves its fans so much that we are going to be treated to a Free 3-setter on 4/18. To all you freeloading stanksters, stay the FUCK HOME!!!!

I went to the 2 Nassau shows and I thought they were very good! Yes... the first night had a few flubs( You could tell they hadn't played in a while)but the second set smoked. Birds of a feather is a cool new one.Seemed more like an old phish tune with more tension and release than some of the other new funk stuff. Second night was great! Loving Cup,Antelope,Carini,Halley's, and Tweezer Reprise...enough said. And for all you who crashed the floor both nights...Thanks! The side seats close to the stage both nights were pretty open! Lots of room to dance and watch the band do their stuff.

Once again phish has blew my mind and I am sure others with the Long Island Shows. I went to both Thursday and Friday shows, and after fri. I considered driving up to providence to fullfill my never ending need for the sounds of Phish. Highlights from the first night of L.I. had to be onpening with tube, and the run of Sloth(WOW!!!!) Nicu and Stash were awesome. The second set was as good as first especially Pyite, Birds of a feather , whichlook like it had the potential to be a great jam song, Then The Wolfmans>Sneakin Sally was mind blowing, I really liked Relax, and to Finish it the only way phish could the encore of Guyute, will be always remembered.
The Second night proved how good phish really is cause I thought they were really paying attetion to the crowd and turned it up a notch, Mike's as an opener was cool, the weekapaug,Dogs and the Reba were all great but we could never expected what was ahead in the second set. Roses are Free was mastered and sounded awesome into the Piper, that I have heard on tape but never live, blew my mind when I did hear it live I felt so engerized and my body just flowed with the music. Then right into a great loving cup and ending with an Antelope that was awesome, and incredible, but even then those words really don't describe how good it really was. The Glowstick war and "Don't let Carini get you" was funny and entertaining to watch while grooving to the music. Then the encore with three songs was unbelieveable, by the time they did Tweezer reprise, the crowd was so rocking that I thought that it couldn't get any better but that tweezer reprise was a great way to end a great show!!! If anyone has these Tapes I would love to get them please e-mail me at Christm2@tcnj.edu

I had a chance to catch both the Nassau shows and personally I thought that 4/2 was an awesome show. Who could complain about a TUBE opener into MY MIND that was really cool. The STASH was the best one I have ever heard. The second set was definately one to remember. BIRDS of a FEATHER is a phat song and as for "RELAX" it was very Pink Floyd like with the trippy jams. My favorite was the TWIST AROUND which they havent played since the summer. 4/3 Was kind of weak but the REBA was the savior of the first set. PIPER was nice to hear again but the encore was awesome. The crowd at the 4/3 show sucked and they helped in creating the shitty lot scene. COPS SUCK !!!!!!!

Looking At all 4 shows, I can definitely say I would have paid 100 dollars a ticket just to be at any one of those shows. They all look very sweet, and I can't wait for SUMMER!! I Wish I could have been there, and for all those who were and bitched about it - GET OVER IT!!! YOU JUST SAW PHISH YOU MORONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First and foremost Phish is just a band, not a life support. Granted they are the phreshest thing going on in music today. But please stop over analyzing them. Just let the vibe flow. As far as idiots ruining the scene, I don't know. It's too bad, I almost want to cry when I read these stories of fighting? Phish is a whole different vibe than the Dead it is completely obvious. People want to dress like kind hippies, but forgot what it means to be one. People stay positive, and when you're at a show and you someone being a fool tell that person to chill. Keep all your dope in a safe spot because cops are on to the Phish scene. Something has got to change or else this summer is going to be trouble. See you all in the sunshine. KEEP SMILING! Peace and love,
Vinnie - ChristophLosiewski@KVCC.edu
I thought that 4/4 was great. It was my second show. My first being 11/28/97. Right from the tweezer opener I knew that the show was something special. I was VERY dissapointed to hear Bouncin', but I loved the Character Zero. That song has the potential to have so much energy. Then The Lizards>Bowie just blew me away. I had such a great time. If only all shows could be like this.
Nate Lew - NaLew1@aol.com
Okay, I just read all those fucking lame comments on the shows and since this is what it is, a place to post actual REVIEWS and share experiences of the show, here's what I thought of 4/4.....Sorry it's so long but there needs to at least some content on ths page.
I went to Saturday night in Providence and man, coming from southern NH it would seem like a simple drive, but man, Massachusetts has some PHUCKED up roads! We got there in 2:45 (it should have taken 1:30) So, I had already missed my ticket connection and my 2 other buds were ticketless also, but on the end of the exit ramp, after all the wrong turns, we saw these dudes with 3 extras for sale. At that moment I had no idea how lucky I was to see these kids, between getting to the lot (paid only $5) and heading down to the venue it seemed like EVERY god damn person was asking for tickets. So we're inside, and Tweezer starts. Now I also attended the Hartford and Albany shows from fall tour and the first set saturday, except for Lawn Boy and Limb, was played at these shows. I like to see as much material as possible and I wish that Phish would realize that, when they play in the east coast they are going to get a lot of the same people at the shows, and they should give them some different material at each show, or at least try to. I mean the show was definetly a crowd pleaser. SET I: Tweezer got everyone off to a jamming start, then taste, and when they started bouncing I was at first subdued but then as they played it I got really into it and enjoyed it a lot, the ending was so tight. So then FB started off to Trey wailing the first couple notes, holy shit! Everybody was dancing their asses off for this. Mike did and excellent job with Ginseng, one of my faves. I had heard Limb By Limb only on the Hampton tapes from fall tour and I was psyched to get to see it live. I think that when and if this comes out on their new album that it will be the song that radio picks up. But it's only our now!! Lawn Boy and Character Zero were right on as usual. Page cracks me up the way he trots around the stage.
SET II: Birds of a feather is a damn sweet tune and you could tell that they had some sort of plan because after a 50 min. set break they come out there like. 'duh...lets talk this one over again.' Now, I've seen 2001 at every single phreaking show I've been at, and that's a lot of 2001, and to see how its changed has been so damn cool. The teases at the beginning were awesome, the anticipation was so high, and they jammed out the coolest 2001 to the coolest light show, man that spinning shit was phreaking me out!! Every 2001 is better than the last one i saw, and it has to be my all-time favorite in concert. Brother was way cool, and still some more tastes of 2001 with it. A funky Ghost that led to a sort of cosmic, almost 2001 type shift. LIZARDS!!!!!! Holy fucking shit, my first one and man, after all the tapes and every time hearing this song, seeing it live was spectacular...Trey's solo is perhaps one of the greatest sounding licks ever, I was just thinking, when the lights were on him wailing away that a)this could very well be the last Lizards ever, and b)This is the greatest guitarist ever. Then a classic moment..."Yes, Maze! DOH! Bowie!" The end of Bowie was INTENSE! That led to the best peice of music ever crafted by these fine musicians. Hood was tight from start to finish and brought me to tears all over again. The past year this band has given me so much that I am forever grateful for. And at each show I am without a care in the world, because I am at the only place that I want to be at that moment in time. Great show, i'll remember this one for a while. peace.

your a fool if you paid $25 to park...we parked 2 blocks away for FREE...didnt get there until 630 and there was plenty of street parking available if you look..people were parking in a lot next to us for $10...dont blame phish for your inability to locate free or inexpensive parking....you still got to see a show that many people were outside wishing they were in...just be happy and stop your bitching...

I've been abducted by TREY 4/2/98. Can anyone actually believe what is happening in frony of their own two eyes, set I, holy shit, by the way I was totally sober. It can happen to you.

I sometimes can't believe that I still go to these shows with you punk-ass bitches. Been seeing shows since 1991....things have changed. Alot of you really need to relax and stop being such rude little jerks. The whole scene and future depends on you....keep that in mind. Where it's heading now is not a nice thought.
V Man - ccupg@pitt.edu
the scene was not that bad. people were selling all sorts of goodies in the streets and people were smiling. i had a great time
lisa -
People need to stop bitching at eachother. Upon seeing several fall shows, I was under the impression that the scene was looking up. I wasn't at the shows this week but can say that the atmosphere doesn't seem promising. Fights, ticketless, cops....In the end, we are responsible for what comes to us -- karma, yes?
Now, to the actual show-related content of this post; my reaction to the setlists is that they seem somewhat reserved. The anticipated song returns are there (Brother...!) as are the rarities (Tube, Sally, Lucy, Lizards, McGrupp.....) and I'm sure every show jammed.
Keep your spirits up, people, and good things will come.

Early Saturday morning my friends and I left for Providence to see the show. We walked around the crazy scene all day, then 6:30 came and two of us went into the show while our two ticketless friends stayed in the lots. The vibes were good when they came out and opened up with a nice solid Tweezer. I'm not quite sure if it beat Albany's on December 12. Then they played Taste one of the better songs off of Billy Breathes. Unfourtunatly after that they played Bouncin' a good song but I am bored of it. Funky Bitch, one of the better covers that Mike sings always rocks so they made up for the Bouncin'. After Funky Bitch rocked out they played Ginseng Sullivan for a good ten minutes. Then it got real funky with a nice Limb by Limb with some good drum work by Fish. Lawn Boy with Page's lounge singing act is always sweet. At the end of the first verse a person was hoisted up by a friend and gave Page a rose which made the whole band in a good mood. A very loud Mike solo was harshly played with hard finger picking, a sweet solo. A good 15 to 20 minute Character Zero rounded out the set, most likely it was the best song of the set rivaling tweezer.
Birds of a Feather a new song which had some Talking Heads influence that you could definitly hear in it. They jammed that for a nice long time and towards the end of the song you could hear 2001 coming through. When they really started 2001 it didn't even get into the song before they started jamming hard. That went on for about fifteen minutes before they really started playing the notes for 2001. All together 2001 was about 25 minutes long...very sweet. Then they jammed into a nice Brother of which I have never heard live before, was very nice. After about 20 minutes they stopped playing and started to talk on stage, they were up to something? Trey walked up to the mic and said that they liked that song so much they were going to play it again. After playing the first couple of lines they just stopped. What was going on?? Trey walked back up to the mic and said that was the radio friendly version and the next song they were going to play was very radio unfriendly. "You know why" Trey said," because it is very long and very slow. Then they doodled around for a little while before they played a funked out Ghost. After that they played Lizards a nice old song that they haven't played in awhile. They played that with precision for a nice amount of time before they rapped it up. A nice closer David Bowie was phat as usual with some very experimental guitar work by Trey. They left the stage and came and rocked me home with a solid Harry Hood No glowstick war though becuse of the war during 2001. I' m not sure if this show beats the December 13 show in Albany but they are hard to compare, but they were both sweet shows!!!

$25 to park at Providence is absolute horseshit. The band should negotiate somehow to deal with hassles like these at venues. I paid $30 to see a band I once saw for $8 and I'm not paying an extra $25 to park

trey seemed possessed sunday night in providence. what a great show to end the mini-tour and get people excited for the summer. yem was amazing. so was almosy everything else.

I got a chance to see Sat. night in Providence. My thoughts? The sound keeps changing. Trey solos were few and far between. It's cool and all; I feel that the band should expand in directions in which the they feel they need to in order to grow. However, don't expect the same people to go to the shows that have in the past. Phish has meant too much to me for too long to process all my thoughts into text. One last thing. I couldn't believe how nuts the crowd went after Brother when Trey said the next song was long and slow. Long and slow? Maybe the press has been right all these years, maybe they do sound like the Grateful Dead (i.e., Limb by Limb)
Remember these thoughts are some of many, always changing and I am always open to another's view. E-mail me if it kind of bums you out the way the scene (music included) has morphed over the past 3-4 years. I can't be alone.

Both providence shows rocked, but 4/5 was the best. I planned on taking it easy after a jamming saturday night, but found no time to sit down... dance, dance, dance. An all around good scene, except for the audience fight between sets... please, keep the fights for anywhere but shows!! I loved the funk at the end of set 2 and the YEM was terrific. Four shows is not enough, but it's better than none.

bird of a feather------fucking awesome from providence
dreamline - pdb97002@uconnvm.uconn.edu
Highlights from Providence:
1)Tweezer-Mike and Fish were quite loud...pretty funky overall
2)Funky Bitch was tight...the whole place was groovin
3)2001-one of the funkiest versions evah!
4)Limb by Limb by Limb by Limb by Limb
4)David Bowie
5)Hood encore was spectacular-tight jam segment
6)yem vocal jam was nice to hear
7)gin->cities
8)FUNK JAM
Lowlights:
1) the guy sitting next to me who was dragged kicking and screaming from the arena because he refused to leave the seat that wasn't his.
2)the guy tripping in the parking lot who tried to stab me with a shish-kebab skewer
3)Sparkle kind of killed the momentum of the jam Sunday first set.

This school year, since September, I have gotten seriously into phish. I have seen 12 shows between the spring and fall tours. I do not think that I will be going to as many shows anymore as a result of the continuous display of disturbing unkindness, if you will. Tonight, at the Providence show, I was bitterly disturbed to see a fight that broke out during intermission. Something has changed, and it is frightening and upsetting. I don't understand the constant fighting, everywhere. The world wide web is now a forum for arguing and being negative. This contagious negativity has now made its way into the shows. I hope this unkind negativity stops, and I believe that it can. Everyone must try to be positive and kind. Phish is such an amazing and unique band. THe scene and the culture does not need the negativity that has evolved.

Is it just me or is there only about 10 reviews
or thoughts about the shows mixed in this page
of people bitchin, arguing and acting like assholes. I dont know about you but I think Andy put up this page for reviews not some gay
fuckin chat party. Most people really dont want to scroll through garbage trying to find a single person who has posted a review. There are
other pages to get your point across , lets
try and see if we can stay with the topic here.
I just arrived home from the last night and it was great, nothing like a McGrupp once in awhile.

Back from Providence finally after seeing all 4 shows. The best 2 sets were BOTH sets tonight (4/5). They had permagroove throughout. There are other jam bands, but none like Phish.
We are witnessing greatness alive.

I attended the 2 shows in Nassau, and I was pleasently surprised. Thursday's first set was one of the best I've ever witnessed!,and my first Sneaking Sally,Tube, and GUYUTE!! Friday started a little slow, but the boys knew what they were doing when they put together a 4 song second set that was one for the ages, *Page was reallllly on!
With a triple encore: Lucy with a Lumpy Face,Halley's Comet, and of course Tweezer Reprise, this Mini-Tour was a giant success.
I JUST CANT WAIT 4 MORE MONTHS,BUT IT WILL KICK ASS!!!!

IT certainly was great to see Phish in the spring.
The Birds of a Feather toon was awesome.Although,
certain people from the crowd got to me. This message is directed towards "Squeak Toy" girl. If you're going to play with an obnoxious alien squeak toy, at least keep up with the beat!!!! Breath, clap, shout "I love you Trey!", but please keep the squeaking at a minimum. For all of you who suffered the same thing I did on Saturday night, I'm sorry. For all you who haven't suffered the wrath of the "Squeak Toy" girl, BEWARE!!!!!
As far as the first set on Saturday, I think most people will agree that it was a crowd pleaser. I though Tweezer was really cool, Funky Bitch.....Page was on fire! Character Zero was definatly leading up to a strong second set. Birds of a Feather is a keeper. I couldn't get that song out of my head for a while. 2001....If there's going to be a sick glowstick war it is during this song. The light show was simply awesome, and the glowsticks only added to the toon throughout. Brother was a great surprise...what a cool toon. Ghost gets funkier everytime I hear it. Lizards was due, and it came at the right time. Bowie is the signature song ending a solid set....GREAT BOWIE!! HOOD...Let's just say it put me in tears. If the Pharmer's Almanac were going to do a "Joy of Sets" section, listing the favorite sets among fans, this is one of them. And somebody please tell what the big deal is with really wide, super wide, extra baggy, very large pants!!!
Mike Bobela - mbobela@smcvt.edu
4/4 was great! The setlist doesn't do it justice.the funky bitch, 2001, lizards and hood were hot, Limb was strong, brother was a nice treat, Lawn Boy was very refreshing and Birds of a feather looks like it will certainly become a regular. Trey's shirt was interesting as usual, and Page was looking slick with his new beard. the 2001 glowstick war added to the show too. Durring Lawnboy a guy gave Page a flower. Throughout the rest of the set the guy was writing notes to page. Page would respond with a cheerfull nod. The guys seemed more lively, happier then usual. I think they picked the songs that they really enjoy playing. See ya this summer!!!!!

I just got back from RI, a 9 hour drive so I had alot of time to think about last nights show. I pull into providence, and this town has been overrun, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I finally find a spot to park about 8 blocks away 10bucks, not bad I saw places charging 25? I ran into a friend of mine two minutes after I get there and he tells me about the 4-3 show. They played Carini my favorite song. So I was a little bummed but hey there were still about 30 other songs I would have loved to hear. I after walking around for about an hour checking out the scene I start to make my way to the venue, and here's where things started turning bad. I was asked every 3 steps for a ticket, when I finally made it to the civic center there's some fat dude standing at the top of the steps yelling w/a megaphone "hurry up come on get your tickets out come on hurry up" then I'm treated to a half decent show. I know some of you loved this show, but I was so excited to hit a spring show, I saw the other setlists and I was like this is going to be incredible, instead they come on 40min late which I'm used to play 8:05-9:05 come back on at 10 or so Play Birds of a feather which is a sick song this was hands down the highlight of the show, and then play an average second set. Why is it that I have been picking the down shows on tour lately? I did however happen to catch Hypnotic Clambake which kicked ass 3 sets 4 encores. 10:20-3AM.
In closing there are alot of other jam bands out there, don't put all your phish in one basket

Nassau colliseum- AWESOME SHOWS, Phish tore the place down both nights. Their wasn't anything special about these concerts they were just the usual awesome shows. I read one review that they were off, if they were i didn't see it. Messy as hell in the parking lots, be a little more considerate. I love you

I think people should:not complain about songs, song performance, who is the biggest fan.."dude, i have 300 hours and i've seen 50 shows" no one cares. I love hippies I love frat boys, bathing is nice once in a while but is difficult while traveling:find a happy medium. don't get arrested, at shows, it makes the police not like us. don't throw glowsticks at trey, don't run on stage, don't bumrush gates, I agree the gorge will rock and i think i'll be there. don't be violent. don't complain about lyric flubs. if you have problems write your own. stop worshiping the band, they are human beings just like you and me, they are not immortal gods. I love all of you

I had the a great time at the 4/4 show. It continues to baffle me the amount of people that hang around the outside with no tickets. Coming out of the show there must have been 300 or more people that were just hanging around with that stupid stare in there eyes, acting like its haight asbury. Get a grip will ya......Have your own idenity, don't try to be like a deadhead, that was a natural time period, copying it is being fake. Anyways the show had some real neat hightlights,I loved Lizards, Bowie,Birds of a Feather alot. Trey seemed happy to be jamming last night and Page was quite funny acting like cheesy night club singer during Lawnboy. Cool show had a blast as always. p.s. They seemed to have a camera going all during the show from the soundboard, does anyone know if this has been a regular thing or is something in the works!!!!!!!!! bye Carbo

the 2 shows at Nassau were two of the best shows I have ever seen. The boys blew the roof off both nights... way off! A few highlights- beautiful Stash, funked out Wolfman's>Sneakin Sally, spacey 2001ish Twist Around, the tightest Guyute i've heard, Weekapaug with lots of C&P teases, Rebaaaa!(you've got to hear it), and the 2nd set on 4/3 blew my mind, what an encore- halley's-What the f---? not to mention two incredible openers- Tube and Mike's, you can't beat that. Birds of aa feather is very cool, good jamming in the middle, relax is good, but not at the same level For everyone who couldn't make it- get all of the tickets for summer tour that you can- they are on fire! They are picking up where they left off on holiday tour, and even turning it up a few nothces. Wish I could make it to RI, and for those who do, have fun and funk out! Peace matt

I attended the Friday show at Nassau and I thought is was one of the best shows I have ever heard. I have only been to a limited number of shows but I listen to many many tapes and this show was very cool. I stood behind the left subwoofer about 20 feet from Page. The setlist was cool also, Antelope's light stick war was intriguing. Also, during the second set, some shirtless guy jumped on the stage, ran acrooss, and back into the audiance without being caught by the following Carini (stage director). Fishman mumbled something to Trey, I couldn't make out what is was but then they sang, "Carini's gonna get you," during Antelope. Definately a phatty show.

To the guy bitching about the cops in Providence I have this to say...If you don't like it then (here's a novel idea) FOLLOW THE FUCKING LAWS.
Nobody likes the drug laws, but if you don't make it obvious then the copa will have nothing to bitch about. I hope you're friends arms are nice and bloody and he gets fucking meningitis. Asshole.

chillin show...though a bit short. Two new songs..."birds of a featther" ...kinda sounds like llama...."Relax" ..definitelt trippy and mellow..understated...busted out a few staples and some long timefaves....sleeping monkey and waste were especially awesome. Hoen was a nice suprise though many around me thought they were gonna bust out some silen tin the morning. not as good as the holiday tour...especially considering the amount of repeats that were headrd...but hey ya cant win em all....summer tour looks awesome..peace out all till the next show...feel free to e mail me

Anyone who thought that 4/3 was a good show should stop going to see the band. Trey was miserable, everything was forced, and Mike's damn cord kept falling out. The band has never been less in sync. Be glad you all saw 97. Also, If you clapped along during Old Home Place, Beauty, Reba, or Antelope, stop going to the shows. Clapping makes the band sound like crap and the tapes sound worse.

HIGHLIGHTS OF 4/3/98
*Excellent Antelope
*I loved the guy jumping on stage, you got away before Carini caught you
*glowstick war in the middle of Antelope
*crowd running on floor before show started
(a little to uncool for a phish show, but who could resist not being as close as you can to the boys)
Excelent show, loved the extended jams.

Well whoever said that they hoped Phish would do what they Dead did and stick up for their fans,I have a question for you...why the hell should they? When Phish's fans are acting like total fucking idiots(bumrushing the floor, throwing glowsticks, jumping up on stage, trying to sneak into the shows)why should the band come to their defense??Does anyone remember the letter that the Dead organization issued after the idiocy of their fans during the summer of '95 tour?Well if all you brain dead moochers continue to act the way you do we're gonna end up getting one of those letters from the Phish organization. We lost one of the most beautiful venues in the world already(Red Rocks)so why do people actively try to ruin other venues for the band and the real fans? Here's hoping you glowstick throwers get pegged with one in the back of the head.

my best friend got busted, he was sitting in his car LOOKING at an unpacked bowl and an undercover walked by. they turned two kids and the car inside out and cuffed my friend, about 16 went down that night. they all had to sit in a paddy wagon for hours before going in, the cops used those plastic handcuffs and pulled them so tight people lost circulation and some had bleeding wrists, i hope the boys are brave enough to do what the dead did in providence and speak out for their fans.

I went to both nassau shows and I'll have to say that phish is better than ever. Best night was 2/3. Trainsong and Billy Breathes took me by suprise. Those songs seemed to slow the pace down a little, but the shows were great
Jeff Smith -
first show at nassau was awesome. the two new tunes are great. horn was a nice surprise, and you can't go wrong with a sneaky sally. guyute encore, i called it. the second night started out great, but after billy breathes it was sort of downhill. the reba was most enjoyed. the second set is where i have a bone to pick.
i have no problem with a good long jam, but this time was too much. roses are free is a cool song, but seriously, a 25 minute jam out of it was unnecessary. they could've gone into piper after 5 or 10 minutes. too long and too boring, and i never really criticize phish that much. the rest of the set was great and the "carini incident" made it great. the encore was fabulous. so i haved mixed emotions about the shows, but at least i had the opportunity to catch them. can't wait till summer tour. see ya'll around. don't be shy to reply with your comments.

I was able to catch both Nassau shows and all I can say is magnificent. They just really wanted to be playing and it showed. The energy was so positive. An unbelievable experience!
I wish I was in Providence!!!!!

April 3rd Nassua Colliseum
First off let me tell you what an experience it is to go to a show which is only ten minutes from your home (it sure makes it easy), I haven't been able to do this since Jones Beach in 95....On top of that the show was incredible...I got there right as Mikes song came on and it completely set my mood.....and what a good mood it was...then just as mikes moved into my old home place, whatever it was I took hit me like a mack truck.
All i can say is phishtacy...Right in time for a rockin weekapaug....standard songs next although i love Beauty of my Dreams...But they came back in force with a full Reba...God I love to hear them whistle......The only flaw was my soul as the first set closer...Don't get me wrong I love the song, I just heard it one too many times (Hartford, First night at worcester and then on Dec.30 at the Garden) Second set came off rockin with a long spacey Roses are free into a strongly built up Piper right into a powerful loving cup....(I've never seen Trey move like that)....
The energy was so high in that colliseum that trey just moved with the groove...Then a phan decided to get up there and move with them..He was successful and ducked into the crowd Before Carini could get him. This caused the band to rush into Antelope with occasional "Carini is going to get you" comments Antelope rocked into a high energy climax..As if I didn't already get the show of my life..A three song Encore....First Lucy had a lumpy head then a totally unexpected Halleys comet and to top it off a rockin tweezer Reprise...All I can say is thank you.

Nassau, April 3rd, 1998! Unbelievable show!!!!! Mike's opener was rockin and totally set the groove for the night. Somehow, it ventured into My Old Home Place which was a pleasent treat. Weekapaugh was sick......I could feel Mike's bass note vibrating my whole body, and then, they went into a sick Crosseyed and Painless jam, where they sang the chorus. Unbelievable. The next few songs mellowed things out a bit, but Reba came around and I lost it. The mushrooms had taken their toll and I was grooving like there was no tomorrow. At first, I was pissed to hear My Soul, but Trey and Page really went to school on it. Jammed out, probably the best My Soul around!!!!!! Second set was really phat. Four songs that were jammed like you wouldn't believe. Roses are Free was cool to hear. It's been played three times, and for some strange reason, I;ve been to all three of those shows. Piper is one of my favorites and the jam had everyone shakin down.....During Loving Cup, some dude ran on stage and escaped the hands of Pete Carini. The band played it cool, and said it was cool to come on stage, but beware of Carini. Then Antelope came, with the glowsticks! I lost it! The vibe was so great. I was never this happy at a Phish show before. The encore was, at first, predictiable. I knew Carini was coming, but Halley's Comet->Tweezer REPRISE!!!!!!!!! Who could have known. I just wish I could make it to Providence!

Nassau Col. Friday Night April 3, 1998
WOW!!! What a show! First off, I hate New York, but the people there really impressed me. The energy was extremely high, and of course so was I :-) Anyway, Mikes opened...phat..Old Home Place, I love to hear. And then there was this Weekapaug from another world, in fact I think I heard a Psycho Killer tease in there. The Weekeapaug was SICK!!! The next three songs, look at the setlists, were pretty standard and I wanted something more, then I got it....REBA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Reba so much and then at the end, the whitsle jam...Great Reba, I was very happy..My Soul encore..By this point, I was rockin. The second set was unbelievable. Roses are Free had the sickest jam in it that was really fucking with my head. WOW!
A great Piper, Loving Cup (slow it up on the rotation, don't play this great song out), and then there was the dude. the dude that ran on the stage and made the most incredible jump off of the stage. It was great and if your reading this dude, Carini is going to get you. The Antelope to close the set is one of the best antelope's i have ever heard. Then was the bomb encore, Carini, Halley's, Reprise. I never saw Trey so into it. He was dancing and going nuts. I think a lot had to do with the great energy of the crowd.
Overall, a great show, as they all more or less are. I just hope that everyone has moe respect next time as to jumping onto the floor. That was ridiculous. I hated that. I felt bad for the people who actually had tickets for the floor, they had a lot of room to dance, but when all of the "other" people came on the floor it was packed.
Anyway, Peace and I'll see you all this summer.

Listening to all this crap going on over on the east coast I'm glad I moved from upstate NY to California! Now I can go and see shows like the gorge and Portland! Once again I can see Phish the way I remembered...room to groove...no pushing or shoving....just a good positive vibe and I don't need to go all the way Europe. I saw all the east coast shows I need. What ever happened to shows like Lake Placid in 95 when they didn't even sell out the second night! That was by far the best weekend ever...Hey, I think Phish should play more east coast shows cause that's where they are from but If you are sick of all the BS move out to the west coast....beleive me the shows out here rule! So what if we have some Dead heads checking out the scene...it's all good...Back in 1990 when I was first introduced to PHISH I hated them! But one of my fraternity brothers said "ya gotta see them to beleive them", the rest is Phishtory. And that's another topic I would like to comment on quickly...We don't need to Stereo type hippies, frat bro's,losers, or whatever. I think that's what makes PHISH so good.....everyone can listen to it no matter who or what you are! Cause first of all who do ya think were the first PHISH PHANS! College kids you morons!!!!! We have been backing up these guys from UVM, Clarkson, Potsdam, St.Lawerence,UMass, Middlebury...so everyone shut the fuck up and let's just be thankful they still are together and playing with the same intensity night after night! PS...good job Andy.....and great job Phish! See ya out here in the west!

Killer Reba, especially with the ending, the whole damn arena was whistling. Rose are free second set opener rocked then into sick jam. I thought they teased Psycho Killer hard in the Roses jam, anyone else? Then to end it off the a antelope just perplexed with craziness. Encore could have been a set of it's own. Carini, Halleys(wow) and then a tweezer reprise that featured Trey pounding it out on stage. Overall phat show: 7.5

I think that 4/3 was awsome, unbeliveable. I didn't mean to say that the glow stick war was bad just that they should have been kept in the crowd, to prolong the war. I have nothing but the highest reguard for 4/3 I think that show moved the band to the next level. Who says that they peaked out in 95? They just keep getting better and better. 4/3 A SHOW FOR THE AGES??? That is a good question. Maybe By the way the guy on stage was cool too.
Dan Nikesch - x97nikesch@wmich.edu
4/4 I had such a great time. Felt badly for all the heads in the lot, but enjoyed the show. To Joe, who posted about the 2 guys up on the catwalk: I saw them too and was astounded! They walked overhead, waving, and I waved right back! Fav. part: when Mike came in during Bouncin', at that moment Trey turns around to the sec. 114, where I am sitting, and and gives a look like "I'm doing pretty good, huh?" and everyone cheers. Definitely a special Trey moment.
Erika - phree@compuserve.com
I made it to the Nassau shows and it seems like they have entered a new level of jamming with some new special affects courtesy of Chris Kuroda. I loved the new songs and can't wait for the new disc. I also can't wait for the summer tour. They seem to be really reacting to the crowd in new, exciting ways. It makes the show all that more awesome.

-crazy crazt show, the crowd was sooo into it. Phish was on this night. The first set was a bit standard, but a good Weekapaug and Reba, the My Soul was very intense, a sign for more good things to come for the second set!!! I was taken off gaurd when they opened with Roses Are Free, but then again the i was completely blown away by the whole set. lots of jamming that segued very nicely into Piper!!! Holy shit was this song awesome, the climax seemed to build and build, you could feel the energy in the arena, everyone was goin nuts, the best piper ive ever heard!! next was Loving Cup, a great tune that was perfectly placed after piper to settle everyone down. Some guy ran out on stage and was jumpin all over the place, he leaped back into the audience before Carini could catch him, everyone was goin bezerk!!! Then i heard theh opening note of....Antelope,.>WHoo-HOooo. Never heard this one live before, they then stopped and fish started saying, "If ya wanna come on stage, make sure Carini doesn't get ya," or something along the lines of that!!! ANyway back into Antelope, they started a "Carini's gonna get ya" chant, and exploded into the jam!!! Great second set, only 4 songs but thats all i wanted to hear, perfectly played, the best single set I've ever seen!!! As expected they came out and encored with Carini. A good tune that was spooky and jammed out!! I knew they weren't going to end w/ this, and then they busted into Halley's, a nice treat that was well played....Tweezer Reprise finished Ver VEry strong, the place was on fire, a perfect end to a perfect show!!!!!!! cant wait til summer!!!!

4.4 Providence
I really think the energy last night was above and beyond anything i have heard from this band live. The breakout of brother was incredible and how can you go wrong with a second set that has that new song about birds, Ghost, Bowie, Hood, and 2001!!!! The scene was kinda beat out in Providence but the show was heavenly.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the jams last night too

From the looks of the setlists everything is well on it's way! I can't wait till Phattie West Coast shows,(even though I grew up in the mid-west!) I have experianced all of my Phish shows in the mid-west exept for 11-22-97 which blew me away!! But the mini-spring looks Phat all my bud's from OHIO are there! I can't wait to hear the stories from these shows! My 20th B-day was yesterday 4/4 they honored it so KINDLY!!! Phattie Lizards,Bowie,2001,Limb, I'm sure after they worked out the kinks in the 4/2 set 1 they have been frolicking oh so valiantly!I love Phish!! And all they do you see, it's not even about the setlist or venue, it's about us!!! They play for us! Without the Phans they are nothing but four guys Phrom Vermont. With us they are PHISH!! And they play how they feel(listening to beautiful divided, monkey!!)So if they feel like Character Zero that's what's gonna happen'. If they feel the funk Ghost's will enter the building! But remember it is a luxury to have them! Please do not do goofy things like crash gates! Every hates to compare them to the Dead and all(as do I!) but learn from their mistakes! too many ticketless Phans result in wierd happenings i.e. gate crashes, stage rushes! So be kind to the venue's make sure you throw glass bottles away but also have fun,and we will be writing reviews for many years to come!

I thought the show was excellent. The first set was solid and tweezer was a good opener. The vibes were good. The sound where we were was slightly muffled, but other than that it was awesome!!! By the second set, they were rocking. I was so psyched about Brother and the blues brother's tease. Lizards made me sooooo happy!!!! I was sooooo happy to be there...I wish tonight wasn't the last night...I could live off of Phish!!! See you all tonight, for another rocking show. I wish everyone had as much fun as I did, but from these reviews I am disappointed too as many have commented. What the fuck is wrong with everyone??? Maybe you've all forgotten about what life is really for: to have fun. You only live once. Why be a drip??? Stop your bitchin' and realize we are sooo lucky to have had this mini tour opportunity. Out west they get cheesed. LOVE and ETERNAL HAPPINESS TO EVERYONE.

Hey there,
I just want to let you all know that last night's show (4/4) was a fucking phatty show. The scene was a little iffy, i'll admit, but if you just close your eyes and let go, the music just takes you to another world. i have been to a bunch of phish shows and i don't understand what all of the bitching is about. trey blatantly put down all of the pseudo phish heads with his radio-play comment and then their playing of the non-radio friendly song, ghost, which he said was "really slow and really long". i think it sucks that there were a bunch of ten year olds in high heels there while there were hard-core phans outside, but hey, what can you do? try to buy as many tickets as you can when they go on sale and make sure they get to those people in need (at face value!!!), that's what i do. well, that's all i have to say in response to those that do nothing but bitch. see you all tonight!!

I didn't go to any of the spring shows unfortunately.
But, it seems to me from reading this page that
every tour people get more critical and unhappy with
Phish shows.I don't have a problem with people
not liking setlists or the vibe, but it should be
kept to yourself throughout the show so others can
enjoy. Bouncin' isn't my favorite either but it may
be someone elses, and that doesn't make them any
less of a Phish Phan than you. Also remember,
Phish is human. So I agree with the several people
who criticize the people who criticize Phish.
SHUT UP AND HAVE FUN OR DON'T TRAVEL HALF WAY
ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO SEE SOMETHING YOU DON'T LIKE!

I don't understand all the lame vibes people are posting. Whats going on with the scene out east? Seems like a lot of people forgot to have fun. Are you going to shows for the funkfest or so you can chalk it up as show number... and brag to all your bros? It sounds like the sets were great... wolfman's>sneakin!!! I'm "almost" glad i didn't fly out from the mellow west due to the scene and all the bitching. Don't forget to have fun!!! Isn't that the biggest reason we all go to see the best band ever!?! Thumbs up to all the folks who posted postive reviews, and didn't bitch about smelly hippies or drunk frat guys, so those of us who weren't lucky enough to attend could get a feel for what went down. I hope any of you that come out the Oregon, Washington, and California this summer bring your patchouli cause we got a lot of stinky folks out here! Ye-haaaa!! later on

I Give this show a 9.5 out of 10. The vibe was sick and the music was incredible. the Mike's opener was great. Highlights of the show were Reba->My Soul, intense, The whole second set
just kicked ass. encore was powerful.
CM - Craig0035
The second night in NAssau was incredible. From the Mikes opener to the 3-song encore it was insane. the Piper in the second set was so sick.I have never danced so hard in my life as i did in that second set. It was just absolutely insane.BTW this was my first show sober and probably one of the best i have ever seen.Try going to a show sober and let the music be your drug. All in all it was a great show with many good jams and a ton of phun. Keep on sharin in the groove!

I would just like to say thank-you to all the people that have posted their serious opinions about the shows they went to. Every single persons opinion is relevant and worthwhile. To the people that were complaining about the complainers, you are not helping the problem. SOme asshole reads that shit and it makes him want to do it more. Yes , some people don't like certain songs, and they freely express that opinion. That is their constitutional right. Never bash someone for exercising their freedom of speech. It's one of the last "freedoms" we have. As for the asshole that jumped up on stage Friday night...do us all a favor a grow a brain.

Only got to go to Nassau 4/2-someone before me here said that "they play to me everytime i see them"-man,is that the truth.
My last show was Hartford 11/26,and since then i've acquired and listened to quite a few boots-it seemed like they were
reading my mind and knew exactly which songs I've really been digging lately.
Tube to open-who would've seen THAT coming?Horn out of nowhere from the middle of Stash?
Birds of a Feather-first time played and the way they jammed it,you'd think they've been playing it live for a year or so already.
Blazing, ripping Rocky Top(Mike didn't sing Poor Heart this time:-)).
I had such a great time-can't wait to hear the tapes-from what i've read here, all the shows sound pretty wild.

4/4-good show in all. First set was a little boring(i thought) but he second made up for it. What a set it was. Did anyone besides me see the two guys who SOMEHOW got onto the catwalk during Hood and ran around the whole civic center on the cat walk. WOW, I'm impressed. I wonder if there was a cop waitin for em when they got off. Does anyone know about this or even see it.

first night at nassu was rular (pronounced RU as in ru-paul and LAR as in larceny). rular means something is so great that it is like more than great. such as, someone like bob, who is infamous, which means he is like more than famous. note, no one still understands why bob carries his pet turtle assrammer everywhere he goes. bob, please, control that little devil. at friday night's show at nassau, assrammer proceeded to pillage twenty-two young sphincters. in fact, assrammer was so engrossed in one particular asshole, that he missed the entire PYITE. anyway, any show that opens with a tube and ends with guyute - RULAR!

WOW I THOUGHT THIS WAS A REVIEW PAGE NOT A BITCH PAGE. HOW ABOUT SOME THOUGHTS ON THE MUSIC RATHER THAN THE HIPPIES WHO ARE GREAT PEOPLE,OR THE GUY WHO JUMPED IN STAGE OR THE GLOWSTICKS. WHAT IS TRULY RUINING THE "SCENE" IS THE ASSHOLES WHO BITCH ABOUT EVERYHTING. IF YOU DON'T LIKE SOMETHING ABOUT PHISH DON'T LISTEN TO THEM AND DON'Y GO TO THE SHOWS BECAUSE YOU RUIN THE SCENE. LISTEN TO THE WORDS OF THE NEW TUNE AND JUST FUCKING "RELAX"!
ANDY -
4/4 Providence - Definitely a good show. In the first set I especially liked the rockin' Funky Bitch and Limb By Limb. Even though the first set was short, it was the second set that could be described using one word, "jam". Birds Of A Feather is a great new tune which has alot of potential for some great jams, this was an awesome tune to kick off the second set. During 2001 there was a glowstick war, Chris dimmed the lights, Phish provided funk. Brother and Ghost were a treat and were jammed out, but there were more tasty treats on the way. Lizards was a great surprise followed by a ripping David Bowie. Finally I got my Harry Hood encore, it was good and I do feel good. There was no glowstick war in the middle of Harry, probably because everyone had already thrown their sticks during 2001. Either way it was a great encore to hear and a great show.

I do not care what anyone says about 4/3 set II. That was the show I had been waiting a LONG time to see. The jams were so well done and melodic (end of Roses, after the funk; PIPER!). Hey, people can hate Piper, but I DO NOT! Man, that song got me going Friday. Plus, while the section I was in sat at the beginning of the song, by the lyrics EVERYONE was up and dancing. Then, Page-->Cup. Wow. Such high energy! Okay, on the way to the show I said two things: I want a Reba, we WILL hear Antelope tonight. (I am an Antelope magnet.) Sure enough, what came next. The 'Lope. Plus, the reggae ending! Not to mention a three song encore, including Halley's! That show was great, I LOVED THE ENTIRE SECOND SET, I thought it killed Thursday night, and can't wait to go back tonight.
Peace, all. Hope you had a great weekend.

Nassau...2nd night
Antelope is individual, so slow, so raggae I thought that Makisupa was sure to follow
The spacy jam out of Roses threw me for a loop, left me seeing fractiles and I wasn't even psychadelized!
Triple encore was superb, Carini is such a jam and Halleys is always welcome but... unfortunately where there is a tweezer there is a tweezer reprise
Overall: 1st night=B (goin out on a high note is weird)
2nd night=A (I will be back to this venue)

To the asshole who has mailed me with bullshit because he Know everything there is to know about phish, upto and including when I can or can-not enjoy a song:(this includes all of you others who cannot let anyone enjoy what they enjoy, and leave them the fuck alone)
Phish was built by phans, and it was a phan who started dancing and nobody cared, everybody joined in, It was a phan who brought a case of glowsticks to maine and everybody liked it, and it is all of the phans who make phish their choice of music. If that choice includes the fact that I like to hear the song simple, then dont call me a lot head and tell me I am ruining the scene for everybody. I have no ambition to fight about who is right or wrong about who phish is and what their about, because to me they are four of my best friends and I have never met any of them. They play to me everytime I see them and they do the same for everybody else. In a nutshell, grow up all of the SIMPLE minded people and just let us enjoy the music if you all cant.
I apologize to anyone who had to read this that it does not apply to. Keep groovin.

I just got back from 4/4 and it was great besides the big fat guy that puked right where me and about eight other people were dancing. I was psyched for the Tweezer, especially for an opener. The show was also my first Lawn Boy. But the first set was nothing compared to the second!!! They started off with birds of a feather which they really jammed out, they jammed it right into 2001, which had a really awesome jam before they got right into the song, and 2001 led into Brother!!! Seeing this made me really happy, especially when they did the quick instrumental reprise. From there it was Ghost(and a great one at that) into Lizards and a Bowie to close the set. In between the end of the set and the encore, I said to the Person next to me that I'd really like to hear a Harry Hood encore. I guess Page, Mike, Fish, and Trey heard me too. See everyone tonite. Peace

First night of Nassau wasn't the best show of all times or anything. I feel that the energy level was significantly low during the first set, but as the show progressed it started to rise. All in all i give the show a 5, being for phish seemed tentative to jam.
Second night on the other hand had to be my favorite in long time. The way that phish recovered from last night showed that thier talent has not diminished. I felt that i was at a 92' show.
Well for the third night i decided to travel back to VT and see Strangefolk play and i am glad that i did, for the show was really a good one.
It is now ten in the morining and i am getting ready to go see the providence show and i gather from the other three shows that tonight will be the best.

Don't really have a show review, just want to say, that I was at the New York shows and they
really kicked total ass. New songs were great
Birds ranks up there with the best from last
summer's batch - (Ghost, Twist Around, Limb).
Just have to wonder though. I've been to 17
shows and still haven't heard Sparkle or Wilson
- but I have heard Sneaking Sally... twice. Go
figure. Is that screwed up or what?

just got back from 4-4, and it was good. solid jams, bitchin Brother, 2001, adn Bowie. Like the new song a lot too! Hope tommorow will be just as fun:)
Mike -
Tweezer endsed up being a little short, but in that sense it was much to my liking. The rest of the set was fairly standard, and that is to say it was well below average, I thought it was interesting to play taste and limb x limb in the same set. Now we should progress to the second set.
Start off the set with a repeat Birds of a feather, I hope that the only songs that come up again are these new ones. They spaced that out onto Also Sprach which Trey subsequently pushed away as he saw the onset of the glowstick war. After that concluded they launched into Also Sprach, but instead of going through the progression three times after the first time they went into a vocal jam. This stopped because of the overexcited(and clapping) crowd. So right off into brother, this had a jam in the middle similiar to the Space Jam or Porno Jam and then back nto brother. after this Page thanked his brother for coming to the show and they went back in for about 20 seconds of Brother. Then Trey mumbled through his explanation of how the next song was not nearly as radio friendly as the one that proceeded it and eventually they went into a good short Ghost and into the Blues Brothers Can't turn You loose, that led into the now rare (somewhat) Lizards which was flubbed by Trey in his solo for better or for worse.Bwie ended it and they decided to stretch it out two extra times for sake of Trey not wanting to play a new ending line.

Well, where to begin. Tweezer opener was expected and enjoyed. The boys really had it going on tonite. Page had his shit on tonite. Everything was pointing towards him. "And by the way, Jay Grandin says he's hanging tough."

Attention pseudo-hippies (this means all of you):
Don't forget that musical peformances are totally subjective. Just because you didn't like a set doesn't mean that someone else can't think it was great. For such "free spirits" you're a very closed-minded bunch of people. Instead of taking the band so seriously, just sit back and enjoy the music for what it is. If you don't like a particular song then just keep your mouth shut, because someone else might really like it!

The show was..it was..well, I didn't go to the show, but hey, I got a cool bottlecap collection. Just got my 53rd cap today.
CapMan (not to be confused with PacMan) -
4/3 was just insane, man...enjoyed the pre-show with desperate phans looking for any opportunity to jump the wall and run from the security. Obviously some folks got caught but most made it ok. Second set was simply phenomenal. Roses->Jam was funky and sick. My first Piper followed and I was totally hosed by this version. Loving cup->fan/Carini madness-> ANTELOPE!!!! Totally insane Antelope, kept building, glowstick war was terrific.. nice little Marco reggae section followed by a great finish and a sick encore (although everyone in the building probably expected Carini's song), but Halley's?? Ohhhh yeah. First set was rockin with mike's into groove and the phattie REBA. Can't go wrong and even My Soul was okay on this night. I think the 2nd night of 4 night runs continues to prove to be a superior show in general...well worth the drive up from Philly.
S.E. -
Great show tonight! The first set was rockin (yeah, less funk!!, maybe the band has been reading RMP). Tweezer was the perfect begining. Brother was so nice, and Birds is a really geat new song. Hope all the other new ones are as good. Outstanding show. It will be hard to top tommorow!
-
just got back from the first night at providence. what can i say? - outstanding. simply the best night of the whole "island tour" so far!
TWEEZER - great beginning. jams out into a mid-tempo funk-thing before going into
TASTE - transition was a bit awkward but then it was smooth sailing. great jam that really built up to the end.
BOUNCING - okay, after two extensive jams we need a breather right? okay - "bouncing" is fine. it gets a bad rap, but it really is a great pop song.
FUNKY BITCH - now we're back. not a real long version, but one that rocks and gets the crowd really going. mike sounds great!
GINSENG - well, this is a good song, but a bit of a letdown after "funky bitch." short and sweet, paving the way for....
LIMB BY LIMB - IMHO this is simply the band's best new song and tonight they proved why - flawless version with a nice mellow jam that set us up for
LAWN BOY - this was a surprise. i wan't expecting this at all. well, what can you say - "lawn boy" is "lawn boy." page was entertaining as always.
CHARACTER ZERO - time for trey to play "rock star." sometimes this song just seems like a waste of time but tonight they really go some momentum built during the extended ending.
SET II
BIRDS OF A FEATHER - two times in one four day span! i don't think we needed to hear this one again - especially as the set II opener. harmless and sort of dull.
2001 - YEAH!! this is what i was hoping for all night and boy did i get it! awsome version that was quite lengthy, quite funky, and all around incredible. the lights were mind-blowing.
BROTHER - another pleasant surprise. really great jam. the extended jam tone has now been set for set II... there is no turning back
GHOST - trey introduces the song as "radio unfriendly" because the song is too "long and slow." the band busts into "ghost" but brings the funk down for a another mellow jam (another theme throughout) that was textured and really pretty.
LIZARDS - not one of my favorites but it came off really good.
how do you top this? with a kick-ass...
BOWIE - hands down one of the best, most energetic "bowie"'s i have ever seen. trey was smoking. great set closer.
ENCORE: HARRY HOOD: my fiance called this one early on in the night. again - very mellow jam - but it built up to the "feel good about hood" part beautifully.
all and all a fantastic show. the guys looked as though they were having so much fun. can't wait until tomorrow!!

The shows were all that I thought that they would be. For all those people that could complain about even the most simple error that Trey made or about not liking the a set, $*#& You!!! You should be Grateful enough that you even saw a show and did not have to wait any longer till the middle of July. Oh yeah, when there is a glowstick war don't throw the sticks at the band unless you are a true idiot and enjoy trying to knock out Mike, Page, Fish, or Trey.

Loving cup> Piper> Antelope...... nuff said. I was had fun waching people rush the floor before the show, more fun for the buck. The first set was ok, but in the second set the pace picked up with Piper. As the song was bulding the intensity was also bulding. Then a three song encore!! Haleys Comet, holy shit I thought then Tweezer Reprise!! I think that it is the best closing song. The glow stickwar was cool but why in the hell did people throw the sticks onstage? We ran out because the sticks all ended up on stage. I am pretty shure that the band didn't like it... Trey said "stop man". Trey and Mike were hiding behind their amps during the glow stick war. The glow stick war was cool but next time don't throw them oo stage. I was glad that I made the trip, can't wait for the summer!

Did anyone else see "hood" spelled out in white lights over the crowd, during the first show >>>>>anyone in the 320 sections agree with me ??????????????
the lights were great Thursday and the setlist was even better friday >>>>
During Roses... I couldnt get out of my seat i was definitely in a different world,, I felt this from others around me as well..... What exactly were they doing during that jam???????????
They took us way down during that roses jam>>
But piper>loving cup>antelope>was amazing
not to mention a kickass encore>>Glad i made it up from Maryland;)

I agree that hippies stink, but most of them have been down with Phish since before most of us heard "Bouncin" on the radio (frat punks) and anyway, why can't you live with the smell since you only go to shows within two hours of your house and only go for "weeeeeeed maaaaaaaaaan!!!!!!!!"

All the people complaining about the scene and the guy jumping on stage are assholes. I thought you were their to have a good time, not to sit their and cry because some guy got on stage and you didn't or their are a lot of kids their. WHO CARES just have fun.
Mike Belasco - fnb 2547@erols.com
I just want to say Thank you to the guy during intermission who traded me a seat that wasn't even mine (I sat in it during the first set and no one came along)for a wristband to get on the floor.
I LOVE YOU who ever you are.
MIKE'S SONG> MY OLD HOME PLACE> WEEKAPAUG GROOVE, TRAINSONG, BILLY BREATHES, BEAUTY OF MY DREAMS, DOG STOLE THINGS, REBA, MY SOUL
Show was awesome. I was cheering for all you people jumping over the wall before the concert.
First set was excellent, except in the middle their were two slow songs in a row things just got a teeny bit sluggish. Overall excellent set.
ROSES ARE FREE, PIPER, LOVING CUP, ANTELOPE
Set has to be my favorite of all time. The guy jumping on the stage during Loving Cup was great. Antelope was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO awesome. loved the glow stick war. Been waiting to hear this one for a while.
Encore:
LUCY HAD A LUMPY HEAD, HALLEY'S COMET, TWEEZER REPRISE
This was crazy. Excellent Lights during Tweezer Reprise.
Mike Belasco - fnb2547@erols.com
4/3- I personally thought that the 1st set could've been better...Don't get me wrong....I thought Mike's, weekapaug, and Reba were fantastic, but Beauty, My soul, And the train song were dissapointing. The second set made up for it though. Roses are free>Piper was great...then loving cup, and Antelope!!!! the guy on stage was one of the funniest things I've seen at a phish show. And I loved his escape from Carini! Then came the encore....I mean Holy Crap! This thing was a phish juggernaut! Carini is an all around great song, and then came my fave tune, Halley's!!! I had told my friend that if they played this I would go insane...And goddamit I did! To top it all off, they did Tweezer Reprise, the absolute perfect ending to an almost perfect show. The encore was definitely one of my most memorable phish moments.

FIRST NIGHT was just what I expected. Not necessarily the song selection I envisioned- (Thank God)- but I expected the intensity the band showed. I also expected the band to be a little rusty, which they were, which makes things more enjoyable for me. I love seeing a Trey-flub every now and then and to hear that the band is actually composed of humans is refreshing. While siting at our hotel room, a group of us decided that we would try to guess five songs the band would play throughout the show. Out of 8 people, only one person guessed a single song. The tube opener was very suprising and very welcomed. I have never heard Stash played the way they played it that night. I was in awe. One of my biggest highlights ever. The first set was a little short, but the second set made up for it. I loved the new songs. "Birds of a Feather", in my opinion, is the best first attempt at a new song that I think I have ever heard. I thought it was a Talking Heads song at first, but during the jam I could tell it was an early showing of a soon-to-be vintage Phish song. GREAT SONG!! I loved hearing Sally again, the transition from Wolfman's into Sally was amazing. I must admit that during Twist Around I thought I heard all the elements of a 2001. Guess I was wrong. However, Sleeping Monkey was good, it's always good to hear that one. The only complaint I have about the show is also my favorite aspect of the show. It seemed like 12/30 all over again. Which is just fine with me because I hold that as one of my favorite shows ever. I guess I was just suprised to see so many repeats from the New York New Year's run. I love Guyute. A lot of people say they're playing it too much but a song of that magnitude can't be overplayed.
SECOND NIGHT: Mike's opener was nice but I thought it was a little weak. I liked the Weekapaug w/ the Cross - Eyed Painless super tease. But I felt like the show drag a bit during the middle portion of the fist set (Train, Billy, Beauty, Dog Stole). However, I can see it as a nice change for the band and if the band likes it, everybody's happy. Reba was great. Hadn't seen one since Charlotte two years ago. Closing the set with A fat My Soul couldn't have been more in tense. A strict change from a lot of the set. Page lit it up. Second set was one of my favorites. Rose-Love it, Piper- Love it. A very nice Loving Cup and a very special thanks to the gentleman who got on stage. Now I know a lot of people are against this sort of thing and it's illegal, and it takes away from the band's playing and it pisses off the band--BUT I know we wouldn'have experienced what we saw afterwards. The Carini's gonna get you on-stage antics shows the truest side of Phish and the fact that they would attempt a radical transformation of a song such as Antelope impressses the hell out of me. I loved every minute of it. The ensunig encore left me contemplating skipping my early morning Saturday flight and hitching a ride to Rhode Island. Carini, Halley's and Tweezer Reprise. You have got to be kidding me. Now they opened the first set of Rhode Island w/ Tweezer. Too much thinking for me to handle. You've got to love Phish.
Todd Coder - tcoder@juno.com
if you were at the show on Friday, you would know that the guy that got on stage timed that very well. he couldnt have picked a better time to go onstage. it was not some random thing he decided to do... he planned it out perfectly. i say, good job to him. i thought it was great.

Well, just got back home to Burlington(the old home place)... Lets see:
4/2
I: Tube, The Tube opener was a thrill, caught me totally off guard, I was in the balcony at the begginig and front row lower by the End of this song. The jam was pretty albeit very short, in comparison to the sick falls(i.e. 12/7) into...
My Mind: When's this show taking place 98 or 93?!!! Always a good country tune...
Sloth: A great tune, good placement, lyric flub at: "Aint got no friends." ...
NICU: A little rusty sounding but THE lick always gets me, trey flubs 2nd to last chorus line, laughs...
Stash: SICK SICK SICK, very stash like at first but unrecognizable by the time they get to Horn. They were singing/humming the words to something that i didnt recognize right befor the segue...
Horn: Another one i didnt expect at all, never thought id hear this one. Nothing really original happening hear though.
Waster: The outro is getting there. I think eventually you'll see some setlists that read Waste->whatever, or maybe even Waste->Jam, I dont know, i always thought that about sample too.
Chalkdust: Much faster than usual, Trey was rippin through this one, you could tell we were in for a hell of a run at this time. The jam was really smokin but nothing really new to write home about.
SET I: 1:00
II: PYITE: Much longer introduction ala Flynn except even longer, very funky, you could tell we were about to get funked out of our minds...
Simple: Possibly the only non funk jam of the evening, a really solid simple which brings us to...
Birds of A feather: Not only is that what everyone is calling it, thats what its called, Trey introduced it pretty clearly:"what do you think that one was called? Thats right birds of a feather..." really solid Rock/Funk song this one could be REALLY good...
Wolfman's: A good tune, i almost wish that they would tone down the frequency that theyve been playing this one, the original Phish funk jam(besides Contact, weigh, but really the first one to have a real long funk jam) The jam goes right into...
SNEAKIN' SALLY: I LOVE THIS SONG! i was so pumped at this point that no matter what happened i was goin home happy, good work on the jam, some original stuff goin on funkwise...
New Song: Contrary to what ive been seeing im pretty sure(90%) that he was saying:" the world will turn itself inside and suck you in..." Not really a song that i connected with but who knows...
Twist Around: Good song. If every twist around had a jam like the one that followed this one, id take a twist around every day of the week and twice on Sunday :) ->
Jam: Possibly the best of all of the FUNK jams of the past year(Its the best these ears have heard) the light show during this was phenomenal, i cant believe that there hasnt been more discussion about this jam, honestly i have NEVER seen anything like it, i dont know how to describe it. It was like Space Funk and it was working perfectly, the jam climaxed after a fairly substantial amount of time(i don have the numbers) and went nicely into...
Sleeping Monkey: a personal fav of mine, the 'Home on the train' by Fishman seemed especially fulfulling and the outro solo sounded very nice, i thought this would end the show but...
Rocky Top: Packed with energy, everyone loves rockytop(or they should :)
Encore: GUYUTE: I must be the most jaded human alive to have expected another tune after but it must have been post-Albany syndrome hehe, no let downs here though, if it was up to me i would eat, sleep and breath Guyute until my final breath.
1:25
All in all a great show, the second set was funked up and i could tell the boys meant business for tomorrow night...(review to follow at a later date).
Andrew - Jbriggs@together.net
Well for one I thought that the shows were good, so good that I spent most of today sleeping. But there is still one thing that I don't like. Ok besides the mediocre lot scene and ensuing mess which i too am guilty of contributing to. I wasn't too apreciative of the gate crashing shit or the guy running on stage. Nope thats not all that great either. What I don't understand is this glow stick war shit. Yeah it looks cool and it must be fun to pelt each other with hard plastic objects but why the fuck do people throw them at the band that they pay to see? Doesn't anybody realize the disrespect and problems this causes? You try playing when hundreds of objects are flying at your damn head. The people who throw glowsticks at the band are probably the same people who go to a bar and throw beer bottles at the band. You people are assholes! Do you realize how much musical equipement costs? Ever see what a speeding glowstick does to the finish on a Paul Languedoc custom guitar? Ever see what a glowstick does to your eye? How about puncturing a speaker cone? How about seriously injuring somebody like the band? Goddamn get some sense, this has to stop, its getting worse and worse everytime I see this happening. Sure the band adds to the problem by picking up all the sticks and throwing them back, but they didn't do this at the Coliseum because it has gotten out of hand. If your going to bring glowsticks aim for the nearest bearded dreadlocked guy, not the band or the crew jeaz sense people sense!

Big fan of the lights on Thursday.
Bigger fan of Loving Cup > Antelope/Carini beginning.
Cheers to Carini for being a sport and coming on stage.

IT IS now saturday, and I finally have slept enough, so that i could write a review. Both shows , as usual ROCKED!!. I though Phish might save the good stuff for RI, but after the unexpected Tube opener on thursday, I knew I was wrong. Tube opener cought me and everyone else by surprise, but all were grovin' to it's magical beat. My mindf was next and it to was a pleasant surprise
The sloth and NICU were next, what a way to kick of a show! During NICU, Trey kept screwing up with the music and lyrics, which got a laugh from the crowd, A spacy Stash followed and Chalkdust closed out the set. A stong first set ( the best first set I've heard since last summer. Set II will go down as a classic. PYITE opened. Although this gets the crowd going, it has been played a little to often over the past year, all was forgiven once the first few chords of Simple set in. Simple was tight as usual, and segued smoothly into a new tune called "Birds of a Feather" (or so everyone calls it) This song has as much potential for exploration as any song they have written. They crowd, although unfamilar with the song, got into its groove real quick and was rockin'! Birds moved into Wolfman's and the funk was nice and heavy. Nothing special, yet it moved nicely. During the jam they segued into Sneakin' Sally (again totally unexpected, since they played it in December @MSG
Expect to hear it quite often during 98'. After sally they played another new tune, which was slow, and forgettable, as it sounded like the middle of a long jam, where they slow it down a bit, and are playing soft, Twist around was next and I don't care for it too much, as it does not move me like other tunes. Sleeping Monkey and rockytop closed the set. I was hoping for a little more punch to close out the set, but We were all rewarded with a Guyute closer!!
This has to be one of the better all around shows Phish has done. They usually have an OK 1st set with a few jams, and then rock out in the 2nd. They rocked out the whole show, very impressive for not playing live since 12/31
4/3
After night one, I was in very good spirits, and was more then happy to hear a Mike's>Old Home Place>Weekapaug (show highlight)opener. I like the fact that phish has used new songs as openers, instead of always opening w/ Jim,Chalkdust,&Julius. Who would of thought Phish would start playing Mike's,Tube,Guyute,Tweezer,Sneaky Sally as openers? I think its great because it adds more mystery to the band. The rest of the set was a wash, except for the recently seldom played Reba,
always great to hear, and the Reba Jams never dissapoint.
set II opened with Ween's Roses are Free, with is an unlikely cover, but Phish makes it work. After a nice long spacy jam, Piper evolved. After hearing Piper live a few times, I've noticed how popular this song is. And rightfully so. There is the great bulid up, which gets faster and faster, until they start singing, and then it builds up again. This is the perfect song for the twirlers, sice its revamping last fall.. Next up was loving cup, which had the crowd going crAZY, and morphed into a stellar Antelope w? a lightstick war during the JAM. A nasty encore of Carini>Halley's>Tweezer Reprise, sent the extremly loud crowd home more then happy. Although I'm a long islander, and hate seing Phish on the Island due to the inhabitants thet dwell here. I was taken aback to the gracious welcome the band recieved, and expect to see them there in the near future ala The Dead. If these shows are any indication as to how well the band is playng, and there ability to kepp changeing the setlists and keeping them fresh, 1998 will
be Phish's best year to date. See Y'all on tour!!!
john -
I think pretty much anyone who writes anything here is an asshole. There is too much negativity.
There is too much stupidity. One kid said "I ate 25 doses, dude!" We all know he didn't.....and
why do we even mention Dead and Phish in any sentence together? They are different bands who do different things, each acheives separate things.
That is all, just don't be jerkfaces.
Zack - pickz7s0@numen.elon.edu
Oh what a beautiful buzz! Going in with high expectations already, Phish rocked the house Friday Night! I came up from Washington thinking I would probably hear Mike's and Piper too, but Phish brought me through to the highest degree. After New Year's run, I thought Reba was dead, so what a thrill it was to hear such a fat one, whistled home and then a great My Soul. Following Fall tradition, I knew Friday would be the Piper, but the Roses Are Free into Piper was so beautiful it blew me away. When the first jam built, Chris laid the fat turquoise lights tp the roof and the made us all feel, as on New Year's, underwater. This time, though, Phish drove us all the way home, from Roses Are Free straight through Piper and into a Loving Cup that made you jump for joy. The buzz was almost killed when a guy jumped on stage, but the band shrugged it off. Fishman: "If you're gonna jump on stage, don't let Carinni catch you." However, it scared the shit out of me and I can't say loudly enough how flagrantly irresponsible that shit is. It's a party, alright, but we need to make sure there's always a party. Anyway, the ensuing Antelope was hilarious and had a glowstick war. The encore had to be hot, and I must say they again exceeded my top dream (Suzy Greenberg). A really wonderful show that really made up for a very disappointing New Year's Eve.
peace

I agree about the Phan base that has started coming to shows. They bumrushed the floor on night one, and some dude runs up on stage night 2. What the hell has happened to the scene???? I am glad Phish is still willing to put on two great shows in light of this bullshit. I HOPE THE SCENE IS ALOT MORE CHILLED OUT FOR THE HOT SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PHUNK - Don't fuck it up for the rest of us
2/3 was incredible. The word is FUNK!!! I just wanted to add that this was the youngest crowd I have seen at a Phish show in the 7 years I've beeng going to see the boys live. This probably contributed to the annoying synchronized clapping throughout the night. There were way too many 12 year old kids at this show!!!! I'm only complaining about this b/c I felt old until the music took hold and swept me away (I'm only 24). Anyway, it was a great show to hold me over until the Lemonwheel. Anybody notice how much fun Trey was having?
Dank - dankauf@yahoo.com
This is for the dude who jumped on stage you are ignorant WHY WHY WHY would you do something so vanilla ice style of a phan bass? What goes through your mind when you are at a show wow man I can get up on stage and mayhbe Trey will say come on man lets jam together yeah right buddy grow up. Get a life Phish is for the music not for publicity.
Sorry I am just very disappointed in the phan basss that has started appearing at the shows.

set 1
Solid! phish pulled some old ones out of their bag full of tricks. Tube opener what more do you want? never would have expected my minds next; great to hear again. sloth another suprise and the coluseam was rocken! nicu another old treat and one of my favorites. waste was waste and chalkdust played faster then normal was a good closer to one of the best sets in the last year.
set 2
the boys kept rocken with a punch that had an extended funky beginng. simple was avearge trey kind of flubbed through the main part but made up for it in the jam. birds of a feather new one was great an has a lot of funkey jam potential. wolfmans is always solid but i think its overplayed recently. sneaken sally wow always wished i would see this one and it took me right back to necter's. relax i think thats what its called was slower and had some crazy lyrics. twist around not played a lot scince last summer was a great to hear and well played. i hope this song will be put into rotation this spring. sleeping monkey another old one always funny. set ended rocken with rockey top. guyte a great ending to one of the best shows i have ever seen.

Thank you boys ! It's about time you played Nassau, although I'm not really fond of the venue, the sound was lacking big time, but let's get to my mini-review !
Friday night's show was one of the phinest I've ever seen in 7 years of Phishing ! From the opener, which was totally unexpected, 3rd time and first time since 11/97 Hampton, to the ending Tweezer reprise, Phish played their collective asses off, this the is the reason why we travel great distances to see them. I'm Long Guyland native, so it was extra sweet, my 1st shows at Nassau since Dead in '94. One more thing I wanna add, if you're gonna drink at the shows, why don't you bring a fuckin' garbage bag, is that too much to ask ? The parking lot was a sea of glass, let's make it possible for them to come back this fall or next spring..that's enough of my rambling....Carini had a lumpy head !!! Happy trails, C.Chris
Cosmic Chris - charzero@aol.com
I thought Thursday, the 2nd rocked, but Friday the 3rd was absolutely phenomenal. What a shock to hear a Mike's opener. It was sweeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!The Old Home Place was great to use in between Mike's and a sick Weekapaug! What a way to start a show. After hearing this, I knew things would be good. Rest of the 1st set was highlited by a beautiful Billy Breathes and great versions of Reba and a jamming My Soul. 2nd set was all about improv and jams and we all saw how wonderful Phish is in my opinion. Roses are Free to open was stretched out to the max and the Piper was a nice treat. The Lovin Cup, well, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL BUZZ!!!! and the Antelope with the Carini lines was undescribable! The glow stick war made it even more enjoyable. Think about it,only four songs and still a perfect set to me and my pals. Three encores and every one of them just flowed perfectly, from a Carini to an awesome Halley's and a Tweezer Reprise to close out the show. Now some of my friends know why I love this band so much. Thanx for two phantastic shows at Nassau guys!!!

4/3 second set they tour it down, some of the best jamming I have ever heard from them, their transitions were once again amazing.........thanks to demoan for hooking up the tickets, he missed one hell of a show..........since I have only been to 4 shows is it customary for a large percentage of phish fans to have no rythym and simply dance in place like the girl from flashdance?
Da Broiler -
I went to the April 3rd show at Nassau and Phish
rocked!!!! From beginning to end the energy of the crowd rocked the Colisium!! This was my first Phish show and I can't wait for my next one!!
DiMar! -
I really do not understand all of the negative reviews. If you cannot have a good time at a Phish show and all you want to do is complain about the real heads dont go. Go see some frat bands. Both the New York shows where great. No complaints here. From the 1st night Tube to Tweezer Rep.(a total suprise) I was groovin. The heads make it all a happy and caring place. Its all you frat kids that ruin the schene. Quit going please. Care to comment eme.

4.2.98 -- phish at its phinest...incorporated almost all aspects of their style -- from oldschool to bluegrass, funk to blues in the first set. Mikes>ohp>week>crosseyed jam>week best opener imaginable. Slowed down a bit afterward, but nice mellow feel. Loved the dogs stole, and the reba was pure oldschool, nice to see them whistling again. My soul caught fire, great end to a solid set. Roses>Piper>Lovin Cup, Antelope. Almost all that need be said. Jamming ranged from funky to spacy to balls out intense. Time wise was somewhat short, but made up for in the encore -- probably top3 encores ever. And to all of you who bitched about the scene -- the lot was weak, but it is a short tour. Perhaps there were a bunch of newbies there, but the crowd was energetic and the boys responded. Considering the venue, they played a very risky set, and the crowd ate it up. We earned that encore. Hofstra thanks you, fellas...great job. Please visit us at Nassau soon and often.

Does anyone know if the Providence shows are going to be broadcasted?

I live close by Nassau, so I was fortunate to attend both shows this Thurs and Fri. The major thing that shocked me about the concerts was how much fall tour/New Years stuff they played, as opposed to new tunes or other songs... But the concets were still butter!! Highlights for me first night, first set were Stash, Chalkdust, Theme From the Bottom (which my Dad recognized was from Billy Breathes), and a sick 2 set which contained among others PYITE, Simple ( containing one of the creamiest guitar licks Trey has ever ripped)Wolfmans, Rocky Top, Sneaking Sally..., and another song where Fishman sang (the name escapes me). Second night, first set had a Mike's opener that was really sweet, Weekapaug, Old Home Place, and really good My Soul at then end. Set 2 was again sublme; Roses are Free, into a sick Antelope that was crazily extended and then into a kind Loving Cup. Plus a 3 song encore that included Parrini/Lucy, Halley's Comet (simply awesome) and Tweezer Reprise. A great 2 show run--Phish was so psyched to be playing you could see smoke coming from their ears

I was only able to make the first show before I had to come home to Toronto. The strangest thing happened. Everyone had a ticket. People even put extras on a tree for people to take later. I spent 20 minutes tring to miracle someone before I gave up and just gave them to someone who already had tickets. That was strange. It was one of my favourite shows cause I took my girlfriend Ita, to her first show. She said she never saw/heard anything like it before. I was so happy
Daniel - DGoldst739@aol.com
4/3--so funky all night. they just sounded so tight, it was sick. i couldn't tell for sure since i was behind the stage, but it sounded like mike was slapping on more of the songs last night. it even sounded like he was slapping on the end of billy breathes and on beauty of my dreams.? a highlight for me was defintely reba.--and a great my soul. second set was jammed out--still very funky jamming on roses are free and piper. the antelope was memorable (even more crazy funk on the breakdown marco esq. part). as for the encores--they were definitely excellent closers to an excellent show. --once again, more funk. mike's bass made tweezer rep. more funky than i've ever heard. crazy show--i'm just thankful that when i lost my wallet two days before teh show my ticket wasn't in there. hope providence rocks. see everyone this summer.

I think the 2nd set of the 2nd night at the Coliseum was really good. I have never heard them play any music as trippy as that before. The only thing that bothered me about the two nights at the Coliseum was that almost all of the songs they played were played on the NYE run. Considering I was at MSG on the 29th and 30th, I herd almost every song they played already!

For all you people that critique the shows, I think it is great. What most fans must understand is that Phish is all about creative thinking. For all you ignorant people that tie in the Greatful Dead with Phish is an abomination to real fans. The only thing they have in common is IMPROVISATION. IF YOU WANT TO CHECK OUT REAL MUSIC CHECK OUT THE FRINGE OR ANY KIND OF FREE JAZZ. STOP ANALYZING THE SCENE AND ENJOY THE MUSIC.

What's been going on lately? All I've been getting off of this little review page and the newsgroup as of late are bad vibes. That and the apparent fact that people at the shows can't seem to control themselves anymore. Think about what you're saying and doing people.

April 2 Show kicked ass, from the first set openning with Tube and My Mind... Stash was great. The PYITE, Birds of a Feather, Wolfman's->Sneaking Sally Through the Alley was absolutely incredible. And to top it off with Sleeping Monkey and Rockey Top. What a show!!!

I got to say something cause all the other reviews are talking about stupid bullshit. 4/3/98 was awesome. Mike's opener was a good sign and they just kept rockin. Crosseyed & Painless tease during Weekapaug was sweet. I haven't seen Reba in a while so that was cool also. Second Set was a jamfest. I really love the 4,5 song sets of late. Antelope was jammin' with the little reggae groove at the end. Props to the guy who made it up on stage - that's his show. Encore was long and I even liked the Tweezer reprise for once; Trey was getting down. Long Live the Funk.

Second night was insane. I really felt like i had an outer body experience during piper. I was eating an orange during the roses are free jam when i heard the first note that had piper written all over it. i freaked out (piper is my favorite song.) When the song ended, i turned to the guy next to me and asked him if he ever had an outer body experience while holding an orange. he said no, but i sure looked like i was having fun. this was the best show i have seen and it was my 30th show.

You know, you people really need to face the fact that this is one of the greatest bands we're ever gonna hear; in fact, one of the best, ever, period. So quit your damn complaining and enjoy it. Chances are, you may never get to hear such beautiful music, so pure and from the soul. If you don't like it, then don't ruin it for everyone else. Embrace every show, every moment, and make sure you remember why you really listen.

In the name of total accuracy, I wanted to point out that some of the information about the show that's included in the setlist for 4/3/98 on this site are incorrect.
Fish totally started the "Don't get caught by Carini" and all the other Carini speak. Trey joined in later and their words were always separate.
Secondly, Carini just chased the guy who jumped on stage and the guy managed get away from him by jumping off the stage back into the audience.
It was great. I'm speechless. I've been to some great shows but everything about this made it incredible. Too tired to elaborate now. Be well everyone.

Man, last nite, people crashed the floor before Phish. Tonight some dumb ass ran on the stage. What the hell is wrong with this picture? Is there any loyal fan out there becasue people are bitching about Phish not playing in Florida or they are not playing in their home town. I live in Mass and suffer a huge lost but the only fond memories lasts with me after Great wood(94&95), Lowell and Boston (94,95 &97). But they are not playing here this summer....Oh well I can still drive on this amazing trip. I know there won't be a problem with this weekend shows because there will be more loyal fans and I don't want to come here again and see there some newbies bitching about the setlist because Bouncing or Tweezer was not in the setlist. What the hell happened to those good Ole' days?
ps- Phish doesnt belong in New York for New Years, they belong in Boston so please come back

4/3/98 was truly another spectacular performance by the Vermont based quartet. Antelope was especially pleasing and so was Weekapaugh Groove. The glowstick war made the night and everybody was really into the show. Definitely get the tapes if you were not there. By the way, I think we should try to get Phish to bring back the Grateful Dead classic Eyes of the World. I have a bootleg of them doin that song in 1984 at Nectars and its epic.
Mike - MASCHER80
i wasn't at this show, but was able to hear most of it on sugarmegs. instead of giving a complete review, i'm just focusing on what everyone would like to hear, what about those new songs!?!, well here are my thoughts: birds of a feather is an excellent song! it sounds very similar to a talking heads song, the central part of the song at least, with the chorus sounding almost identical to that of crosseyed. quick-tempo song, i LOVE it, and the jam that ensues is definately bound to go places, this version already sounds like it's taking off places, and it includes some GREAT trey soloing! at the end, trey says the name of the song, and then there's a bunch of rambling, it's great! wolfman's pretty standard, goes into the funk scene, isn't too long before becoming sally, nice transition, sally done up right, then into a great jam, everyone's doing something special, mike creates a great groove, trey sort of standing back for a bunch of it, this is a wonderful jam, and what's more it's really long. trey makes the move into the new song, still a segue, but lead on by sir trey. now i must make the distinction clear, this new song is absolutely NOT the Samson Riff/Blow Wind Blow, i can see where the comparison was made, but it's not, they're both VERY different. when whoever said this song was spooky, they were damn right. it's a pretty cool song though, not as good as birds of a feather imo, but they're both very different styles, so i can't judge fairly. the jam that comes out of the song is just as spooky as the rest of it, but it's not too long, and will definitely need some work before it becomes complete. twist around starts up as the new song loses steam, the jam comes out of this twist is seamless, and by the time it gets to the aliens-are-coming jam the twist around format is left completely behind. this jam has a bunch of page feedback/background noise, with trey helping him out, playing some very spacy riffs. eventually the jam leads down into a low, spacy dronish sound, little activity, as if they're deciding what to do next, but then instead of having something come out of that, they just mess with the space they've created, which is some freaky stuff! after a LONG while, it slowly dies down and trey picks up the notes to sleeping monkey. i've pretty much spoken about all the important stuff setlist-wise, but it sounds like it was a great show to be at!
Nick Zuiderveld - nrzuider@hilltop.ic.edu
good show...but some people need to learn the art of bathing or get something to mask that smell..it was about 120 degrees in there and alot of people stank...this is not a third world country and there isnt a water shortage..so do us all a favor for providence..TAKE A BATH YOU GOAT SMELLING HIPPIES......it was a good show though...

Pi - pharpua@hotmail
Well, I got to say that I forgot how good this band was until last night. Tube was a bit sloppy and sure, Trey does forget the words to some songs, but the additional lights, new songs, and subtle jams, both atmospheric and funky, make this a show I really, really enjoyed. The Wolfman/Sneakin' Sally segue was just too phenomenal for words, and the Twist Around jam seemed to glide into celestrial skies and veer towards 2001. The Let It Be tease during Sleeping Monkey was fun, and Trey's playing definitely became tighter as the show wore on. After a minimal amount of Phish classics (like Stash and that oh so amazing jam in the middle of it), I was surprised to hear a Guyute encore. Listened to the 12/30/97 tape on the way. A lot of repeats between tonights and that show. But who cares? 8.5 out of 10.
Lee Schiller - Leester2@aol.com
i didn't catch the shows, but reading these reviews and hearing people complain about trey flubbing lyrics is pissing me off...who fucking cares, mistakes are put of life...i mean those guys are up there not knowing what greatness they will bestow on us next, and if they mess up lyrics fine...try memorizing the words to over 200+ songs, and work trey's magic on the guitar the way he does, and then come back and talk to me

i didn't attend the show last night, but i am listening to it right now thanx to the kind pholk over at sugarmegs(thanx victor) i am listening to the new song "birds of a feather" and the chorus part sounds a lot like the melody of "crosseyed and painless". i'm not saying it's a rip-off, it's just the musical crescendos sounds remarkably similar. excellent song. can't wait till providence!!!!

The wolfman's/sneakin sally was one of the funkest phat jams of the year. better sneakin sally than both on 12-30 (more natural). Birds of a feather is phat, very phunky, i thought it was black-eyed katy when it started. the other new tune sounded shwag, not funky or even creepy, that all phish phans love and appreciate.

First set was nice...nothing special (except for tube), but the second set from the Birds on was steller. set 2 is a must get.
The New York crowd pretty much sucked, though. They weren't groovin' to the music and all they cared about was getting down to the floor. How quiet was it when they opened the show with Tube? There were just too many people standing around waiting to hear Bouncin' and Free. (not that i'd mind hearing either of them tonight (first set anyhow.
Anyway, I'm not trying to bring the EAst vs. West thing again, afterall I am from The East...Its just that New York blows...
-my thoughts,
Nitkin -
IMHO, second set was simply unbeleivable... the light show during that one jam (I forget which song it was) by istelf was well worth the price of admission. I'm sorry that not everyone feels the same way that I do... these reviews seem to generate some kind of momentum... people are easily influenced by other reviews the read and they revise their memories of the show accordingly. The human mind is a strange thing ineed. All I know is I was very happy during the second set and that's all that counts. I don't care if they were always in A or if Trey screwed up this or that lyric... I was having a great time and was very wrapped up in the sounds being created... that's the bottom line... I feel no need to write a wordy review trying to justify my subjective experience... I just liked the show and that's that.

Thursday, April 2 was absolutely sick!!!!! I loved every minute of it. Tube was fantastic to start and everything else in the 1st set just flowed perfectly, especially the Chalkdust which was just sick! 2nd set was well worth the pre show excitement.Great Punch to start and the new Birds of a Feather had me groovin all the way through, itwas outstanding.A funked up Wolfman's>Sneakin sally rocked and there's no words to describe the rest so I might as well end it here. Awesome show, can't wait for tonight and Providence!!!!!!!!

The show was sick! 2nd set better than the first.Sneakin' Sally out of no where. Was just as crazy as NYE.Another thing I have to mention is that people have to to stop putting the boys down for little shit such as the NICU fuck up by trey. It seems like everyones a fuckin critic and thats total bullshit. I thought you were fans? If your going to bitch and yell don't come to the shows.

This show was not boring, it was incredible!
The sound was much better than I expected (at least from where I was sitting). The Stash and Twist jams were some of the best ever. Phish has finally become what I always knew they had the potential to sound like. I don't care if Trey forgets some song lyrics; it's his creative guitar playing that really matters. And let's not forget Page, Mike and Fishman, who sounded better than ever. I'm glad I made it to this show!

4/2/98-NASSUA COLLISEUM
This show was great because I got to see some songs that I've never seen them play before. Although it was a little sloppy, the Tube opener was funky as hell. Some other highlights of the first set were: Sloth,NICU,Stash>Horn and a rockin' Chalkdust. The second set included many new songs which were all good. They opened the second with one of my favs. P.Y.I.T.E, then into another fav. Simple. Wolfman's and the Guyute encore were unbelievable! A great show with a couple debuts! The boys never cease to amaze me! See you all in Limestone!

WHAT CAN I SAY... WONDERFUL!! TREY MAY HAVE NEEDED A TELEPROMPTER FOR THE FIRST SET, BUT OVER ALL IT WAS AWESOME. NEVER EXSPECTED TUBE OPENER OR SNEAKIN' SALLY. IS BIRDS OF A FEATHER ROCKIN'OR WHAT?!!? LOOKING FORWARD TO HEARING THAT AGAIN. YOU COULD REALLY TELL THAT THE BAND MISSED THE FANS AND WERE HAPPY TO BE THERE. 2 THUMBS UP FROM ME!!

not to be redundant, but the chalk dust was outstanding....kept the hardcore groove going when they came out with one of my top five, PYITE. awesome tempo... i think ya'll should take it easy... definately not their best night, but i've seen much worse. 'nuff said. see you in Burgetttown, Vernon, and Limestone guys. Safe journey to Europe.

Nice first set, save the botched lyrics. the second set was a bore...proof that this band is really losing it musically. I think they spent 45 minutes in the second set in A. No interesting melodies or tempo changes in the set. Just nothing.

A very good show. Did everyone catch Trey botching up lyrics a couple times? (NICU especially) It was still a better than average show with solid jams, a Tube opener, my first Horn experience, and a great Guyute (as usual) Probably the fastest, hardest opening to Chalkdust I ever heard. Can't wait for Tonights show !

FIRSTLY - Last night's show was the best light show I have ever seen at any concert ever in my life. Completely insane. Great job, Toph.... SECONDLY - 1st set, IMHO, was pretty weak, though Stash was excellent. But the biggest problem was the sound; Nassau just sounds shitty. This was definitely improved upon for the second set, and I know that tonight's show (4/4) will be perfect, soundwise. THIRDLY - Damn. What a sick 2nd set.
Right on, right on, people.

Wasn't there. Setlist looks killer though. I did just see String Cheese Incident a month ago though. GO SEE Them before they get big to the point where phans crash the floor(sounds like a shitty pre-cursor to what the insane scene is becoming). Pllleeeeaaaassseee respect these venues. I want to be able to go the Gorge(and other venues) for years to come!

A tube opener, who would have thought. They brought the funk right in the beginning, starting where they left off. there new songs are either super funky or really spaced out, but so good and different. I can't wait for tonight.

I'm glad I wasn't at this show! Looks rather boring and typical Phish to me...

"It's so stupendous, they opened up with Tube!" On April 2, 1998 at Nassau Coliseum we ended on a high note. That is, the end of the first set did. My favorites from set one included The Sloth followed by NICU and then into a killer Stash. There jams picked up right where they left off in 1997. Although Trey botched a few of the lyrics - but I forgive him.
The second setopened with PYITE and featured two new songs, Birds of a Feather and another that said Relax in the chorus. The best jams came in Wolfman's Brother -> Sneaking Sally through the Alley and Twist around.
And finally the encored with Guyute. I can't get enough of that song. Every time I hear it I love it more.
-See ya at the next show!

listening to set 1 (actually got into sugarmegs FTP at 1pm)
It sounds pretty kick ass so far! The set all-in-all seems pretty tasty and yet leaving so much open for the next three nights!
Too bad about everybody crashing the floor before the show started. Had that happen the 90 Foxboro dead show (needless to say, they never went back to Foxboro :(

THE DISCO WAS WONDERFUL

The first set was O.k. Everybody was surprised by the Tube opener but then the next 3 songs were short and to the point. I thought the first set contained a lot of miscues, like they were rusty and for the past copule of months hadn't played live. The second set was killer - From the PYITE opener to Simple (Sick), to Wolfman's-->Sneakin, the entire set was great improv. jamming and the 2 new songs were great, especially Birds of a Feather 9Could have been the best song of the night).

Phenomenal, especially jumping over the boards and on to the floor.

Overall, a good show, in the first set you could see they had not been on stage for 4 months. Tube is now almost in heavy rotation - Albany 12/13/97, the New Years run, and again now. Trey messed up in The Sloth more than once, and the Stash jam was better during the New Years run. The second set was strong. I like the new songs, I can't wait to hear them again during the summer. Sneakin' Sally was great - I am so lucky. And the "aliens are coming" jam was ridiculously good. Crowd pleaser encore was a nice touch.

I didn't go but for the last 4 months I have been dreaming of 2 shows, one starting with Tube and one starting with My Friend. Could I have possible dreamed up tonight's opener.
